View Full Version : Van Halen together ... yet again.

So how long will this tour last before they're ready to kill Dave? I'm gonna be optimistic and say 3 shows. Pretty cool that Eddie's son Wolfgang is playing bass for them. 16-years-old and touring with VH. What a charmed life.

3 shows before they kill Dave or Eddie falls off the wagon and into the booze again.

Waitaminnit -- we had a thread about this not so long ago and they didn't even get as far as rehearsing for the tour before the whole thing blew up in their faces. This could be an old article. Lemme go find the thread....
ETA: yep, here's the thread (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54097&highlight=Van+Halen).
Nope. not an old article. They're talking about a whole different set of dates and they do reference the tour we were talking about in the earlier thread, so apparently this means they're going to try this again?!
One things for sure; no way am I plunking down money for the Calgary concert. I bet the odds of them making it all the way through the tour are about the same as Paris Hilton winning the Nobel Prize for physics.

As near as I can remember, Wolfgang was not an original member of Van Halen. So, I'm hard pressed to see how this is really a reunion. And having seen the real deal all those years ago, I can't imagine how I would be anything other than disappointed with a new show, given the current state of affairs.
No thanks.

In the strictest sense of the term, since Wolfie is Eddie's son - isn't he, in fact, an original member at a very basic level?

blacbird, I'm pretty sure Fagen's undead. I mean, he's looked nesferatu since, like, the second tour.
As for Van Halen... It's a long way from the announcement to the stage. I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm convinced that all the problems in Van Halen throughout the decades have stemmed from Eddie (which is what 2 out of the 3 lead singers have confirmed. I bet that Gary Cherone would agree were he not such a seemingly nice, non-confrontational guy).
It's Eddie who can't play nice with others. He couldn't get along with Dave, Sammy, or Michael Anthony (that's the only reason Wolfgang is going on tour, and that kid hasn't even been playing bass for a year!) OR Valerie Bertanelli. And, since Alex is his brother, he'll go along with whatever Eddie says.
He was a great guitar god, but he seems to be a miserable, self-absorbed person (who looks like a haggard old woman). This tour will likely fail at some point, and I bet it'll be Eddie's fault.

Bah, Eddie looks rough, years of alcohol abuse will do that to you. Although, he has a long way to go to catch Keith Richards. Ol' Keith has been dead for 40 years but I don't think anyone has bothered to tell him.:D

As for the reunion, I couldn't care less really. My reasoning is the same as robeiae's.

Eddie's a crackpot. I've never seen them and have no intention of seeing them now.
Wolfgang needs to join his mom at Jennie Craig.

I'm guessing these are the effects of the more common and 'safe' drug known as alcohol. The other stuff would have likely killed him by now (admittedly he DOES look like a zombie).
Here's a description of an appearance and his condition a couple years ago:

Leave Wolfie alone!
First his parents go and name him Wolfgang(a name which I doubt flies well in school). Then his dad's well...
And his poor mother's trapped in America's Sweetheart Hell...
He's already messed up enough. Last thing he needs is for internet geeks(hehe I'm one too relax), ripping on his weight and giving him a complex.
We can't all be skinny. Well I can it's my genetics + metabolism. But the rest of you. You can't all be skinny :P

I hope it will last, but if not at least we've had a return to the heyday for just a little while.
Personally Eddie is the one who runs the group--it's always been like that and always will be.

Not to throw my girlie gossip into this thread, but...
There's speculation that ex-wife Valerie is trying to sabotage Eddie by releasing her tell-all book (http://www.amazon.com/Losing-Gaining-Life-Back-Pound/dp/1416568182/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204767624&sr=1-1) during the VH tour. I doubt that's the case, but I guess you never know.
I'd still see 'em (if I could afford tickets:rolleyes:)even though I'm a Sammy girl at heart.

I have to admit, watching that vid and seeing how utterly chuffed Wolfie appears to be up on stage with his dad's band, makes me smile. I hope the kid is having the time of his life.

ETA: Eddie in better days (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_lwocmL9dQ&feature=related) (11 minutes)In 1986, I saw Yngwie play that in concert with one hand, and stifle a yawn with the other.
And we also see where arrogance and a passion for donuts got Yngwie.
ChunkyC
03-07-2008, 01:51 AM
Yes, Yngwie's an arrogant ass. If he was as creative as he likes to think he is, he would have put together a band that took the world by storm like Van Halen did. Yngwie is a prime example of a guy who took what Eddie made popular and pushed the technique into the stratosphere but forgot all about the musicality.
Dance the Night Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEvpreZcAfI)
Yngwie couldn't write a song like that if his life depended on it.
Thus leading to the debate - who has let themselves go more, Eddie or Yngwie?
