Hi all. My question is how long is the norm for getting responses from publishers. Is there a general "give up" time for agents? We just got started - so they are probably just know reading our proposals. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've had some take a year to finally give an answer. One was just a black hole. They wouldn't respond at all, not even to say if the MS ever arrived. I gave up on them after a year and sent it elsewhere. Another had a turnaround time of only 6 weeks.

I'm not sure there is a norm, even for agents. I've seen agents get a response for a large publisher in under two weeks, and the same agent have to wait two years for another publisher to decide on a book they eventually bought.

In my (admittedly small) experience, most publishers responded within 3 months.

However, the one that bought mine held onto it for 7+. So a long wait isn't necessarily the kiss of death.

Good luck!
