Anyone else is a Tintin fan here? I can't wait to the movie, hope is not another Hollywood trash. But let's wait, we have Spielberg and Peter Jackson, yay!

Has Tintin reached the States?
Loved the humour. It's so European I didn't think it had been published in the US.
I used to watch a nightly episode just before the 6 o'clock news in the UK. My children loved the books and had the videos. I dread to think what Hollywood would do to it! They have Tintin without his plus fours and quiff. Snowy would be turned into some ghastly cute pooch.

Captain Haddock would drink coffee and have a deep dark secret left over from his maritime days.
Bianca Castafiore would be a kickass girl reporter whom Tintin would eventually fall in love with.
Chang would be seven years old and adopted by Professor Calculus to provide the requisite spunky precocious kid in the story.
Dr. Mueller would be a Nazi.
Nestor would be gay.
Apparently they are going to make the Crab With the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure. But is not still sure, what is sure is that is Tintin is going to have a rival reporter and a fatherly editor, it doesn't bugs me they know show him doing something of his so called job but I think both characters are not needed. What's next? a designated love interest?

So they're not doing Prisoner of the Sun-Crystal Ball? Hopefully they'll do that for the third one, unless they're still doing two books a film and after Sun-Ball they'll do the two Chang Chong-chen stories. That would be wicked.
They've just lost their star (and maybe Andy Serkis, who was to play Haddock, too) because of the shake-up at Paramount and Dreamworks, and it's not sure they'll be able to start shooting next month.

Yeah, they also had some problems with the budget. It's scary to think they are entering to Development Hell
Are they keeping it in its original quaint 1930s-40s-50s setting? Or doing it with a modern style? Keeping it true to the original comics would be awesome. But a smarmy, fast-talking, jaded 21st century Cool Kid as Tin Tin would be awful and vomit-inducing. Hopefully no product of the Disney Child Actor Mill gets involved with it!
So far seems they are going to keep it on the 1930's-1950's of the comic, thankfully. But the idea of a revamped hip Tintin makes me shiver...

It's hard to say every book has its own charm. From the Syldavian forrests to the plains in the moon and from the streets of Japan-invaded Manchuria to the carnival streets of Politically-unstable San Theodoros; there is a bit for everyone in spionage, action, adventure, intrigue and much more! (except romance, though)

That's very hard to choose. Probably a toss-up between Blue Lotus and the two Moon stories for me.

Tintin is a national treasure in Belgium.
After King Kong, I am worried about what Peter Jackson will do to Tintin. Did he ever read the books or is he just looking at this as a great commercial idea to make big bucks?

King Kong would have rocked if Jackson had kept it an hour shorter.
The last Asterix live-action film got the French Razzies but it and the previous one sold tons of tickets in Europe, I think. Monica Belluci starred in the latter!
Considering how he wanted to adapt Harry Potter, it's Spielberg who sort of makes me nervous, though I still think he'll do well.

Yeah, it makes me think he will try to make another Indiana Jones (Tintin actually discovered Tintin when a reviewer compared the first Indy movie with the Tintin albums)

I do like a good Tin Tin story. I used to watch the series in French mostly, with Portuguese subtitles at the bottom, but never payed much attention to them. Wow, a Tin Tin movie, now that is something I can't quite imagine, but is expected especially in todays film industry. I am sure will be quite something, even to those who may not be eager to see it straight away.
Actually there have been two live-action Tintin films, a stop-motion one and some animated ones (without counting the two animated cartoons)

I am very much a fan of Tintin. I had no idea a major movie was planned. I look forward to it with both hope and fear. I really hope they don't give Tintin a love interest. That's really one of the things that characterizes him; he doesn't seem to have any romantic interests at all.
If they do indeed make it based on those three books, that would be great as they introduce both Calculus and Haddock and those books are among my favorites.
Though my favorite is King Ottokar's Sceptre.
