I have a few questions concerning booksignings for a small private bookstore. Does anyone know what their policies are concerning booksignings? Do they expect you to stay there for so many hours? If you are told to bring the books, who gets the money from the sale of those books? Do they keep it all or a percentage? Is there a set amount of books you must bring? Seems no one can give me any info in my book circle and I'd like to have an idea or sort of a guideline, if there is such a thing.

Oh, this is my lulu book. I know, I should've sent it out to more companies. The next one? I won't make the same mistake. Selling is harder than writing. Live and learn. Please, some advice.Ciao S

try reasking in the promotions or self publishing forum. i think you have to bring your own books for a self published book and it generally takes up to an hour

Contact the bookstore you're interested in and find out what their policies are.

Thank you both. I have a better idea of what I have to do.

I will not be self publishing the next novel, that's for sure.

Every store is different. Try to arrange a group signing, and invite a well known author to participate if possible.

Sometimes stores are more open to new authors if they think other local authors will help attract customers.

good luck!

My first booksigning was in a small independant store. I had to bring my own books in for it. They programmed the price into the register and sold the books first before I would sign them. They took 30% and would give me the rest at the end. Needless to say, it was a very bad day there. They scheduled the signing at the same time as Ball State's graduation so no one was shopping that day even with the advertising we did. Your story might be different so I would talk to the owners too. Being a new author, don't expect a large crowd though, just take them as they come and make sure you walk around and talk to the customers. Intrigue them.
