Bit of a rant coming up.
Last night I got a text message from a friend offering to take me to see The Simpsons Movie tonight. Now, she knows I'm a writer and doesn't normally land me with invites at the eleventh hour, but this was the day before, so okay, I agreed, we're texting each other with arrangements just now and will meet up later. She's the type of person to say, "How's your writing going?" and she introduces me to people as "My friend Nicky. She's a writer," which makes me glow with pride.
So. Someone else who's not exactly a friend but a klingon from schooldays who's now got kids, made bad choices in relationships, etc etc...she called this afternoon to ask if she could come round for the sake of getting out of the house. Or what about this evening. I explained I was going out to the cinema so this evening was out, and she suggested I could take her elder son with me...er, no thanks! Look after your own brats!
But, as I'm in a good mood for once, or at least was, I said I could rearrange a few things and she could come round soon if she gave me time to clean up, pack away the laptop, etc, which she agreed to. I've got quite a bit of writing done lately so felt I could have an afternoon off.
So, I was just getting ready for my visitors - two kids an' all, what was I thinking? - when she phoned again to say the boys wanted to do something else, so she wasn't coming.
Oh, well, that's okay then, 'cause I wasn't doing anything important! I don't have an edit to finish, a synopsis to write, I didn't receive an email this afternoon with a friend's work attached for me to read, so go ahead, muck me about 'cause we all know your time is more important than mine and I just sit around all day waiting to have my time rearranged to others' convenience!!!
