Screenwriters Expo Contest

the expo is a great experience and worth the money. go whether you win a free trip (which is not likely) or not. also, pay for the *Kellem "experience" as well.
*or any big name consultant and see what you get as opposed to everyday forum help.

I attended twice. Well worth the price. I learned a lot, and more importantly, I networked, which is impossible where I live. Do the pitch-fest if they have one this year. Have your pitch honed as perfectly and as short and interesting as you can. I got four requests for my screenplay from that experience and two offers of representation. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong one. Regardless, this is a great way to meet people if you have a great script and an even better pitch. Choose the companies you want to pitch wisely, however.

I entered, too. Mostly as a deadline for myself to get my editing done. Otherwise my script would have sat around for eternity.

And who knows...maybe coming of age-romantic-horror-comedies will be big this year.

So, did you do it? If so, how was the experience? I want to do the consult, but since it's not cheap, I don't know if I should bother sending my very first script.

industry seasoned script consultants are not a waste of money. however, there is no point in wasting a consult on a crappy early draft. get the free online consults first. then spend your money when your stuff is ready for the big time. just know that it may take years.

yeah, some contests give feedback but no only do you have to wait, it's usually not as extensive as most people want. it's good but you always need more. take it where you can get it and figure out how to pick out the useful information that is freely given to you.

Well, most of 'em aren't readers. The ones who are wouldn't read a horror script with language and gore. So that leaves us with...

Some may even tell you to post your first ten pages in SYW.

Done it and I totally appreciate all feedback I get. However, it's mostly good for your first 10. If you post the next ten pages, there's no guarantee the same people'll look over it. Then you got new readers who will be confused by what's going on because they may or may not have read your first ten. Know what I mean?

That's why I'd like one person to go through the entire thing. Kellem's at the top of my list right now.

While that's cool and all, I don't have the guts to do so.

Anyway, I'll check out Myles and see what I find out. If I take the plunge with either, I'll let you know how it was.

Exactly. My script's been through several rewrites already. I cringe looking back at my first "first 10" pages. Scary stuff.

I signed up at TriggerStreet, but I'll need to review 4 scripts before mine can be reviewed. That's major work. Don't see why it can't be "1 for 1". Going through 4 full length scripts will take me a long, long time.

I love the No Wait Feedback. It's nice, because winners aren't announced until November. I'll probably do this one if I can get my logline down to one sentence and my synopsis down to 100 words or less.
