Sounds promising:

Scott and Warner Bros. have now teamed up on a new "Blade Runner: Final Cut" just in time for the film's 25th anniversary. This new "definitive" version, according to Scott, contains added and extended scenes, new and cleaner special effects, and that all-important 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. And it should be the version you judge the film by.

What bullshit. I saw the original version without the f'in' unicorn and with Ford's voice overs in 1982, loved it, and they've been dicking with it ever since. Can you even get the original version anymore? Just like mann's cut of Last of the Mohicans, and Richard Schickel's atrocious 'reassambled directors cut' of The Big Red One, this should be rejected for the cynical crap it is.

They've got my money.

As long as they want to keep putting out new editions of BLADE RUNNER, I will be buying.

So is he a replicant? j/k

I liked the original just fine. I never got the Unicorn dream sequence. I thought it was an implication, not proof, that he was.

Ugh. The Director's Cut without the voice-over nearly ruined the movie and now he's going to further butcher what was originally one of the best films ever. Thank goodness I still have my old VHS copy of the movie in its original glory.

I'm not even sure which copy I have anymore. You guys have confused me.

All I know is that, like Stephen King often could use an editor, even great directors should not be given a completely free hand. I'm thinking of a certain pair of trilogies, and another SF epic that supposedly had 6 hours of finished footage.

I like all the versions of Blade Runner I've seen, but this is kind of pricey if you have them on vhs or dvd already. It's a shame its a limited number, otherwise the price might come down.

On an odd note, my honey has become interested in Philip K Dick stories, sort of. He really likes Paycheck and Minority Report, but hates Total Recall and Blade Runner. I suspect production value has a lot to do with that!

I think Blade Runner is a great movie whatever version because its not about visuals, its about interpratation. I hear it is very different from the source Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? So if one is perturped by the film tweaking, you could always read the book! :)

ETA Here's the Amazon Link, I saved it for my dad, who's an original version fan. Curious to see if what is listed is actually released in December!

Bladerunner is beautifully visual film and it's production values are pretty extravagant, especially for its time. Are you sure you typed that right, did you mean Total Recall?

Wow, just looked at that amazon link. I'll definitely be buying this because it includes the original 1982 theatrical release version. I don't think that's ever been available on DVD before. Finally I can watch it again! I've haven't been able to see the movie since I got rid of my VCR quite a few years back (I refuse to burn my eyes by watching the horrific director's cut, which is the only thing I've ever found on DVD).

Yes Z. We can appreciate the effects of the time and not let them hinder the movie, but my Jason is cgi spoiled and I think he lets the older effects affect his viewing experience. He saw one scene in Blake's 7 and debunced it as trash. If anything I'm the opposite. I think Minority Report and I, Robot took too many liberties with Dick and Asimov. He, Jason refuses to read Asimov, even though he works in robotics.

Here's a thought. Dystopia type works have always been around, but are they more popular today because of our society? Does it say something about us when he hail films like Blade Runner, Equilibrium et al?

The Island! That's the other one Jason likes. Even though Sean Bean is in it.

One of the best movies ever filmed. I actually like it without the voice over---but that's just me.

Now I'll have to pull out my copy of it and see which one I have...

Hmmm...it would seem that I have the 1991 VHS Special Widescreen Edition Director's Cut (which reading the back of the box this version apparently: "omits Deckard's voiceover narration, develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael and removes the 'uplifting' finale. The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may be a humanoid")

Hmmm...now I'm curious to watch the original version.

I read a book a few years ago that went into great detail about the movie. I can't remember its title off hand, but it had some really fascinating insights. Apparently they filmed a scene where Deckard went to visit Holden (the guy Leon shoots at the beginning) in hospital. I wonder if that's one of the new bits in this latest version?

I liked what Ridley Scott did with his director's cut of Alien, so I'm looking forward to version three of Blade Runner.

Of all the film adaptations I have seen, Blade Runner is by far the most different from the book. There were no "replicants" in the book, only androids. The only thing that bothers me about the film is that there are certain things you could only understand if you read the book. For example, the text in the beginning explains that replicants are very intelligent. Yet the first replicant we see is Leon, who seems mentally slow. There is a very specific reason why he is acting this way, which is never explained in the movie.

Ack! Perish the thought! But it's probably inevitable considering the current remake happy trend (5 years?) and what's happening with Sunset Blvd.

Hope this special edition of Blade Runner really comes out in December. I'm sooo ready for it!

Remember that brief show Totall Recall 2070? I think that's the title. It was supposed to be some sort of Total Recall/Blade Runner crossover, and yet truer to Dick than both films. I never saw it, and I don't think its available on DVD.

Wonder how Harrison Ford feels about all this mucking? He always said the film had more potential than was shown.

The best story to come from Blade Runner isn't the director's cut or the subtitles, but how FREAKING much Ford hated working with Sean Young. Can't think of the name of the book, but it's a behind the scenes account. Apparently, they had the romantic chemistry of Sharon Stone and Gilbert Gottfried. I'm sure you know the book.

Also from the book: The producers didn't want Ford to be a replicant because they didn;t believe audiences would warm up to a robot as the main charcater. So, they cut the unicorn and added the driving off to the moutains scene at the end. So, the silver unicorn Gaff makes absolutely makes sense when you see the cut scene. Otherwise, it's just Gaff making paper animals, which makes no sense at all. I thought the voiceovers sounded stiff and forced whereas the voiceovers from "An Inside Man" were not.

Didn't realize Ridley Scott was 70+ years old.

I bought the 4 disc collection of the final cut...on DVD 3 has the original 1982, International cut, 1992 directors cut...so all three versions are there...And it wasn't very expensive either...If you go to Best Buy you'll find it cheaper than most places.

I still love this movie :)
