I just wanted to post to see if anyone else on this board loves him as much as I do. He was my favorite American Idol contestant this season and is absolutely fantastic on the Idols tour! If you're one of those who thought you didn't like him on the show, you really need to check him out live, on this tour. He does a duet with Melinda, Proud Mary that is awesome (playing Ike to her Tina Turner) and a mean Michael Jackson moonwalk, too! I also love his studio recordings very much. His voice has a really pleasant, jazzy r&b tone that really has to be heard on these recordings to be appreciated. This kid never got a fair shot on the show and in my honest opinion, most of the people who said they hated him were hating him for reasons that sadly had little to do with singing (race and homophobia-run-rampant, for starters. I have seen and read it all in the months since I've been following his career, and it so incredibly sad the garbage and filthy vile that people have spewed about this kid, who is really such a very sweet human being). I have been very involved with his official fansite and had the pleasure of meeting him and his wonderful mom, Jill, backstage at the Idols show this past month (wish I could post my pics here, but I have't figured out how to upload them to this site yet). He is such a sweetie and the best news of all, he agreed to read my screenplay! (I have a role that's perfect for him!). I don't know what will come of it, as his agent still pretty much has the final say. But I'm absolutely thrilled with the possibility, as I know he will be perfect for this role.
If you didn't/don't like him, fine. But I would love to hear from others that do. The thing that surprises many is to learn that all of his fans are not teenyboppers, but (I'd say the biggest percentage, actually) mature women like myself in our 30's and 40's, artistic and creative, for the most part, who manage to divide our time between writing, work, managing a family and other responsibilities. Maybe Sanjaya puts us back in touch with our innocent selves-LOL! For many of us, he reminds us of the teen idols of our youth. I think, therein lies the appeal. Or a good part of it, anyway.
So, I would love to start this thread for Sanjaya fans. If you don't like him, that's fine, but no need for pointless negativity or bashing, as we fans have had to deal with quite enough of that already. I just want to hear from other fans who sincerely appreciate him as I do.
