Looking for a place to stay in Europa.

Hallo

I can't find a forum, or sub-forum for this, but it should go under Writers Retreats/Exchange or something like that...

I'm looking for affordable housing in Europa beginning December or earlier. I don't know the exact dates until my current contract expires. I would perfer Ireland or Holland, but any EU country is okay with me.

Hi Spooky, maybe you could give us an idea of "affordable". Also a place to yourself or sharing? Any idea for approximately how long?

Just thought it might help people to help you. If you are interested in Madrid/Spain let me know I can PM you some websites in English that list accommodation.

Craigslist has listings for various cities, including Dublin and Amsterdam. Look at craigslist.com, go to the city site you're interested in, and look under "housing". There are normally much better deals than you'll find at hotel sites or in guide books.

Well, the 6th moon of Jupiter is pretty well still undeveloped .. so you may not have many options.

Mind you, it is cold there this time of year .. about -160 degrees C at the equator.

Go to Southern Europe unless you want to freeze. Try Southern Italy, perhaps Sicily. Very Don Corleone and very beautiful. Not great weather but better than UK, Ireland (weather stinks!), Holland or Germany/Belgium. France in South nice but expensive. southern Spain too full of Brits. Do you speak any languages? Useful for Sicily to speak Italian so when the guy's telling you to duck you don't get shot etc etc

I know/hope that in December it'll be different, but the choice this summer seems to be either being rained on constantly in Northern Europe (and experiencing literal flooding in Britain) or being baked in Southern Europe (up to 46C in Greece and Romania, and people dying from it). Hmmm ....

Just joking; you really need to specify the location; and if you are looking for affordable, look to the east, and stay away from England. Pound exchange rate is painful.

Sorry, I was distracted and remembered to come back and check. Affordable for me is around 500 - 700 euros a month. I'll have enough savings to last for most of the year, but will need to find work within a couple months. I like Spain and have applied for a few roles in Marbella (love the city), but can't commit to work until my current contract expires. I'll PM you later in the day.

I don't know what kind of work you do. The word "roles" make me think you're an actor. So don't know how much work there would be for you here, there are quite a few theatre groups around, but in the west of Ireland you'd def. be able to rent a place for that kind of money.
It does rain 23 hours out of every 24, but you know, it actually doesn't bother me at all.

I'm a database programmer. Role is what most recruiters in technology call a job or position, like the blurb below.

Experience of managing a small team is also an essential requirement for this role.

I love rain and write best in that type of environment. I finished work on a novel while living in Portsmouth, the UK. At the moment I am in Arizona and hate the weather here. Can't write in the heat. I'm always hot and miserable.

Even in Ireland you'll shouldn't have any problem finding somewhere nice for that sort of money.
If you're planning on writing there, then I'd say a cold and rainy place is definitely better than a mad hot one.
