Does anyone know of a site, or a physical book even, which will display number of books sold per author or title? I've been looking for quite some time and I can't seem to find a database with any specifics.

Unfortunately, that information isn't available anywhere (beyond the sort of vague, "over 15 million copies sold" promos best selling authors put on their jackets).

Book sales are monitored by Nielson Bookscan, which publishers and distributors have access to but the rest of us don't. The number aren't publically released. It's one of those industry secret thingies;)

here, but too far from the ocean
I agree, and I think someone mentioned Bookscan costs $10,000 or more per year- someone else may know the real number, but obviously not practical for writers :)

The best free indication of sales I have found is with Ingram, and if you do an internet search, you will find people say to multiply their sales anywhere from 5 to 10 times the number to get a ballpark est. of true sales.

The phone number is 615.213.6803

Here is the link to the discussion:

I have used this automated phone number several times to help determine which books are better sellers.

Also, for an indication of online sales rank (not volume), Titlez.com is still free in beta testing, and you can get an average Amazon rank for the life of the book plus its best and worst rank ever. Amazon ranks in isolation can change drastically so agents or publishers will like to see these more expanded figures.

Hope that helps.
