... worth going to? My husband and I are thinking about going to the 2008 one, even though it's in Pittsburgh and I have horrible flashbacks about the time I was stuck in their airport for over 24 hours ... but that's another story.

Does anyone have any experience with it and is it helpful?

Thanks.

Hey, our airport's not so bad (I feel obligated to say that since my late husband's boss designed it ) ;)

I've only been to one RT convention and that was way back in 2000 but it was definitely a good time and I got to meet some booksellers and readers. And hot male models. Can't forget the hot male models.

This year was my first-ever RT. Had a great time. Met terrific authors, readers, and booksellers. Sold lots of books at the book fair. Definitely going next year. (And I'll be on two panels! Huzzah!)

If you're PUBLISHED, or if you're a READER, it's definitely worth going to. But there's not much in the way of teaching topics on the process of writing or publishing. Most of the panels and such are either reader-specific panels (why are werewolves so hot?) or advanced-level contract or publishing stuff. If you're published, it's THE convention to meet and greet your readers and other authors in a more casual setting. Instead of the business suits and such you saw at RWA, you're more likely to find male cover models wearing loincloths with g-strings underneath (not kidding) and historical romance authors in flowing gowns and tiaras.

If you're easily embarrassed, it's a difficult convention to attend. ;)

Actually, I think I would like to know what readers are asking and wondering about. It might help me with choosing how I handle some topics or how I write certain things. I'm not a typical romance reader, apparently, because things I think nothing of are apparently huge issues with others.

I don't embarass at all--there's really not much I haven't seen that could be done in a legal (or even quasi- or pseudo-legal) environment. And I have a ton of flowing gowns and tiaras of my own (I collect them). As for loin cloths, why bother with G-strings? :D

Mmmmmmmm...that's enough reason for me to go to a convention. IMO there's just not enough loincloth wearing men in the world. :)
