I have a wonderful children's book agent. No complaints. I totally adore her! She only handles children's material - is it ok to have an agent to handle adult trade books? Especiall since it is Christian devotional books and she represents my children's items that are also Christian?

Thanks for your help!

Absolutely--I'm in the same position...my YA agent is awesome, but doesn't handle any adult material. So after I finish my adult novel that I'm currently writing, I'll have to find another agent. :D

Is it ok to have two at the same time? By no means would I want to get rid of my children's agent. She's one of the best in the field and it is my main genre. This is just a little added bonus to all the work I've been doing for large Christian mags and tv networks.

Yup. You can have two at the same time. Most adult writing requires different editorial contacts than children's writing. So good luck to you!!

Speak to your agent about it. Your new agent will have to be advised as well. Your contract most likely covers "all literary works"; most contracts do. So you will need an addendum.

Yup--my contract with my agent specifically says only full-length children's works are repped by her...so yes, Begbie is right--check your contract. It will guide you. And it also doesn't hurt to mention to your agent you may need another agent--she may be able to suggest someone for you to send your material to.

Thanks you two. This is truly helpful. What would I do without my AW gang?! =) God bless you all today!
