Hi all,

I have genre question. If a piece is told 1st person, but it's obvious by line 2 that it's being told posthumously, does that automatically throw it into fantasy or would it work to kick it over to this side of the street? Nothing fantasy oriented happens in the life story being recounted, but would the fact that she's dead already be too much? Thanks in advance.

I don't think so. I'm thinking of the movie, American Beauty, which definitely wouldn't have been classified as fantasy.

Thanks for the response! I was going to stick the first chapter over in the SYW section, but I didn't want to put it in the wrong genre and offend any delicate sensibilities. :)

The Lovely Bones (http://www.amazon.com/Lovely-Bones-Alice-Sebold/dp/0316166685/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-6073636-7539103?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184945533&sr=8-1) was told in 1st Person Omniscient (because she's dead). It worked just fine.

I think it's actually quite an appropriate question. :)

And I appreciate the answers given because I have a couple pages started on a dead-POV'er too that I'll get back to sometime down the road.

Yeah, the novel I'm rewriting (again) is written from the POV of my dead MC, and I wouldnt call it fantasy by any stretch. I'd say it depends here.
