I'm realizing that I'm sui generis when it comes to the whole multiple submissions thing. From reading various discussions on the subject all over the place, most writers seem to think that they're the greatest thing since powdered toast, but having just done my largest multiple submission round to date (9 submissions), I'm thinking that I'm plenty happy to send out my stuff one at a time. It was such a logistical nightmare, dealing with the huge stack of paper coming out of the printer (9x15 for the stories, plus 9 cover letters), addressing envelopes, trying to remember to put my address on the SASE, trying to remember to put the SASE into the big manilla envelope. Entering stuff into my spreadsheet and into duotrope (I should probably set up some way to reduce the duplication on this, but my system tracks stuff that duotrope doesn't and vice versa). Heavens, it's neither tasty nor expedicious.
At least this is close to the upper bound of what I'll ever do on multiple submissions: I figure after ten rejection letters, it's time to revisit the manuscript before submitting any more so my worst case scenario is that I might at some point send out ten copies of a MS at once.
The current score since Jan 1st: 4 stories, 18 submissions, 4 rejections, 14 pending.
