Has there been any talk of dividing SYW into both short fiction and novel/chapter length fiction? I feel both writers and critters would benefit from the segregation. I would direct this comment at a moderator, but I'm a lame newbie, and don't know how to do that. Thanks for your input.

We already have a forum for short fiction (Suddenly Fiction Forum) which deals with fiction stories of 1000 words or under.

Thanks for the info, jvc. I've seen the forums for Suddenly Fiction (under 1000 words), but I was wondering about fiction that ranges 2000-4000 words. After 1000 words, SYW is divided into genre-specific categories, which can mean short story, novel excerpt, novella, etc. But there's no forum for shorts in SYW that are genre-specific.

I realize I'm being anal. The range of topics, even within SYW, is impressive. It's probably not feasible to include a separate section for shorts broken down by genre. But short- and novel-length fiction are so different when you're looking for advice. Just a thought.

Thanks again. Love the site.

Home - but for how long?
Yes!

I'd like to see a place for short stories of 1001 to 5000 words

So often the stuff posted in SYW is called a story but turns out to be part of chapter 6 or whatever.

A short story needs a very different crit.
