Forgive my novice questions...

I queried an agent 2 weeks ago (email) including my proposal and sample chapters.
I got a response today that the project is a great idea, and that the agent is very interested. They asked me to send in my sample chapters via snail mail.

So, is this a good hunch, or just another way to reject in the next month or so?
Being that I already emailed the sample chapters, I'm wondering if they already read it/liked it, or just want the hard copies first?

I'm a little puzzled at the request for snail-mailed samples when they were already included in the proposal package. They could simply have printed them out themselves if they wanted to pass around hard copies.

I hope you researched the agent thoroughly and that your next contact from him/her is not a suggestion for professional editing and a referral to a (surprise!) professional editor.

Be cautiously optimistic but don't drop your guard. Keep us posted with further developments.

If they didn't want email submissions to begin with, their guidelines would've told you and you wouldn't have sent it, right?

If they're legit, just expect them not to be nice for the sake of it. If they request something they want to read it. (Did they request the samples you already sent, or did they want more chapters?)

Yes- she requested samples I already sent. She said that she was very busy the next few weeks, so could I just snail mail them to her, and that she thought it was a great idea/ very interested.
Hmm...

Here I am quoting Miss Snark, again.
"Query widely."

I hope you're not waiting around for this one agent to give you a yay or nay. That could take months.

Query in batches. Use the feedback you get (if any) to revise the query/proposal/chpts. In the meantime, if another agent offers representation and this original one is your first choice, telling her you have another offer will move you to the top of her reading list.

Good luck!
