Did we max it out or something? I just posted on it an hour ago and now it's got that sick aspirin symbol beside it, saying it's closed.

Maybe it'll go away in the morning. If not, let me be the first to say he should start another one.

Uncle Jim is my java.

Agreed! I saw it and and thought, "Aaaack! Don't take Jim away!"

The board seems to be acting wonky today is all. No worries. Just typical ezboard glitches.

anyone else see the great big flashing ad on top this early AM?

and the pop up. i'm guessing we went back to a less expensive version of the forum and that's why we have the ad and the limits. i was asking around as to why the jim thread is closed.

I know that i didn't do it. so, i'll wait a little longer for some info and then reopen unless i have a reason to keep it closed. ... til then...

I see you've also reverted to the minimum emoticon list.

Did the owner of the board just not want to renew gold community status? These pop-ups are really quite annoying. All the smilies also reverted back to basic ones.

The "Passion.com" banner ads ... I can't think of a less-appropriate forum.

And those popups! "Earn $4,000 a week at home! (Not MLM!)" Can you say "scam," boys and girls? I knew you could!

Even through the fog of hype, you're all still here. That's what counts for me.

Thanks, emerald!

Thank goodness you are all suffering from appalling pop ups and banners too. I thought my poor computer had had another nervous breakdown as it's not supposed to let these things in. On my knees I beg Jenna to remove the darned things. I really can't stand them.

I didn't think this forum had had Gold Community recently. I saw ads at tops of pages until I bought ezSubscriber. $12 a year. It lowers the cost of running any forum you use.

SRHowen

Well, this AM I saw the ads as well, no pop ups though, and I have ez subscriber since I have my own ez board (Gold) Anyone notice chat is gone and the community chest? Must have been because I came here without logging in.

I think the ban on some threads is because they exceed the length allowed on a free board.

The fee for gold goes by usage--Jenna how much is it for 6 months for Absolute Write? If you brought back the community chest maybe everyone could donate a small amount. The money in the chest can't be used for anything personal or by a person other than to buy ez board services for the board it's on.

I'm just wondering - who is the EZop of this board?

I don't have a clue what the pop-ups are for. I delete them before they fully materialize. :p

The ezOp is Jenna.

It doesn't seem reasonable that sliding into unpaid status should lock and unlock threads. Something else must be wrong.

I'm running into other glitches as well. . . on other ezboard boards, too. Someone's probably trying to fix it right now.

Friggin' popups --

I've now run into not only "Make $4,000 per week working at home!" but "Low cost home mortgages," "Get A College Degree for What You Already Know," and "Make Free Phone Calls!" All we need are "Cheap V1agra" and "Help Me Get $23,000,000 Out of Nigeria" and we'll have the whole set.

Every single one of the popups so far has been a recognizable, instant, blatant fraud. The FTC should be made aware of these things. In fact, I'm going to start clicking through 'em, getting the URLs, and sending them to the Fraud division at the FTC. This is friggin' ridiculous.

Has anyone seen Jenna?? I haven't seen her around for a bit. I know she's busy with the Celine Dion book, I got the newsletter, so maybe she isn't aware of what's going on?

Now, I see "Shoot me and get a free iPod." Free, yeah, right.

One of the adverts -- it's for Ask Jeeves -- completely stops my browser from working whenever it shows up. It just sits there trying to load the rest of the page and failing until I hit reload. :(

We got ahold of Jenna yesterday, everyone--She's working on it and we should have a solution soon.

Apparently, due to the amount of traffic on here, EZ board currently wants $700 a year--in answer to the question upstream. If your community chest icon is showing up at the bottom of the screen, it should tell you that...Mine is showing up today, it wasn't yesterday.

Meanwhile, run your spyware/adware-zapper programs religiously...The pop-ups seem to be invading and re-invading my computer with dataminers and other little nasties.

Holy Cow--$700, that's a pile. How many active posters are here?

And I am lucky I am not getting any pop-ups at all. Nor the banner adds. Guess it must be the ez supporter thing, but no community chest either.

ezboard may have raised its rates recently. I'm an admin on another board where our next year's worth of service is going to cost a bundle. The price depends on number of page views by non-ezsupporters.

Last night, after I posted something, I got logged out involuntarily. That sometimes happens after I post. Then I saw the ads and the popups until I logged back in.

I was following one of the AW threads last night and clicked on a link about a book. It took me to Amazon but to a special page that said there was a bug in the site I was using. I'm not a tech expert but is it possible that we are we having problems because some moron has been tinkering with the site?

And, because I am quite clueless, what do you mean when you say you log on first? I don't find any requirement to log on when I access www.absolutewrite.com and click on forums.

pdr -- anyone can browse the boards anonymously, but you need to be logged in with your username and password in order to be able to post. If you never log out, then every time you come to AW, a 'cookie' on your system tells AW who you are so that you bypass the logon screen.

Eureka! Now I understand. Thank you for that.

I don't know how many people actively post here. But if 70 people donated $10 each, that would cover the $700 annual cost. Or if 140 people donated $5 each.

I'm in a bit of a bind financially right now, probably will be untill the middle of next year, but I get enough from these boards to be willing to chip in $5 or $10 a year.

The Passion ads look decidedly sleazy. That’s the sort of thing that I’m valiantly trying to keep OFF my computer. I just ran an adkiller a couple days ago. I don’t want more of the nasty little things. I also don’t want to get a degree online from a prestigious nonaccredited university. I am really tired of seeing that ad.

I don't even see the ads. If they're driving you crazy, what you need to do is switch browsers and DL Firefox 1.0. It'll kill 90% of the popups anyway. Then DL the Adblock extension. It'll get the other 10%.

It's the only way to browse, I tell ya what.

If you buy ezSupporter, you don't see ads on any ezboard forum, and the forums you use are cheaper to run.

Yeah, Chunky, that's how it should work... theoretically. In reality though, I've got all my cookies enabled and running fine and I have absolutely no problem returning to other sites where I'm logged in -- they always recognise me -- but never AW. Here, the system happily forgets me every time I quit the site and whenever I want to post anything, I need to log in all over again, like I've just done now. Sometimes even, when I move from one AW forum to another, I discover I'm logged in on one but not on the other! Just drives me mad, this thing.

So I have a funny feeling it's not just cookies, it's something funny within the system itself.

I'm seeing the popups with both Firefox and Safari with popup blocker turned on. Whatever they're doing to tell me how to earn $650 a day working at home, it's burning through.
