I'd like to do it. And yes, the email link they provide for submissions must be a joke.

Although wouldn't it be cool if...

I just submitted a bit using the e-mail address. I think that the guidelines and the hasselhoff e-mail is an attempt to be funny. If I accepted submissions at my site I would probably do something similar.

I'll let you know what happens.

Yes, I got through finally as well. I think I made out the email wrong initially. I haven't heard back, and it's been a week.

I can't get the mcsweeney's email to work either. I keep getting a email back about their domain name being broken. And I've tried a few different times.

Please keep us posted on how your subs turn out. I haven't submitted to either one for two reasons -- their websites make it extremely difficult TO submit, and as far as I know they don't pay. (If they DO pay, please advise right away...I'll slog through those sites if there's potential money in it :D .)

And, do you know about American Drivel? The email to submit to is clear -- what they want and if they do or don't pay sure isn't, or at least isn't to me.

Big Jewel, btw, doesn't pay, but they do make it clear and easy to figure out what they want and how to submit it.

Funny Times is the same, and they DO pay.

Yankee Pot Roast takes a couple months to get back to you usually.

It's really not hard to submit to YPR or McSweeneys. McSweeneys doesn't pay, but I don't think there's a more famous humor site on the internet, so it's definitely someplace you should submit to. It's always been my number one spot to submit to. And you do get a little bit of money if they include a piece of yours in one of their anthologies. There's been an anthology of humor pieces and one of lists. They paid $25 for each list. Don't know about the humor articles.

I finally got a response from YPR. So the e-mail is just their zany way of making the submission process fun.

They rejected the bit -- because it wasn't new. Thing is, it was new back in July -- usually, if I don't sell a bit in a week I just post it on my site. So YPR is not for me.

Bummer on the rejection.

So, did they indicate that you shouldn't have used the zany email submissions process if you wanted them to look at your piece in less than 3 months?

No. I think the zany route is the only way to go.

I was moved up to a more direct e-mail to the editor/owner. I'm not sure if the response will be quicker but at least I won't have to come up with fresh David Hasselhoff jokes in the pitch. He seems like a nice guy and we may end up collaborating on something someday.
