A lot of folks at cdbaby.com seem to use this http://kunaki.com/Faq.asp?cc=gs500 service for making their CD's.
I know a lot of folks use lulu, but this looks more attractive. Allow me to explain. Lulu takes 20% of revenue right? Fair enough. But without a upc or cellophane wrapper it's harder to sell and looks a wee bit less, I dunno, professional, yeah?
But kunaki doesn't do that. They charge $1.60 per cd flat rate. Then a $3.00 handling charge per order. And you can get a free kunaki upc code as well, which allows you to sell in shops etc. So I'm thinking for someone at the low end of the independant scale; kunaki's the better deal. Wait there's more...
I dunno if it's for everyone. But think about it. If you or your band does various live shows, well you could order x ammount of cd's and sell them, keeping more of the profit for you and/or your band. That's a good thing right?
But I'm thinking a upc code's kinda the kicker, allowing you to sell in more ways right?
