Cel-phone vs. Cell-phone

I thought it was, but for some reason, I really, really want to make it one!

I think a lot of people make it one word nowadays, because so few people really consider that the full name is cellular phone, so they just think it's some cool new word.

It's a wireless telecommunication unit.
I dare you to call it that for a week. No calling it a cellular or cell phone. "Hey honey, where'd I leave my wireless telecommunication unit? I just can't find it!"
Or he could call it his "wireless teleportation unit" and make people think he's completely lost his mind.

This is a handy watch-it-live lesson in the changing of language. Right before our eyes, the term cellular phone became universally shortened to cell phone (phone itself being a shortened version of telephone). Yeah, I know, in the UK it's still a mobile, but that's a shortened version of mobile phone.
Now that everyone's on board with cell phone, the two words are in the process of 'closing,' becoming a single recognized word. Often there's a period during which there's a hyphen in the middle, but eventually that disappears.
As a permanently joined compound, cellphone is well on the way to joining notebook, motorcycle, and dustmop.

The day I base my vocabulary on what the over made-up hoor Natasha Kerplunky says is the day I give up writing.
I bet the entries I've added to Word's dictionary are a hilarious mix of closed compounds it doesn't acknowledge and filth, in every verb and adjective form.That's it, I'm making it one word...even though Word is going to keep telling me it's wrong.
