Hi, well, it's my first whack at transcribing a melody. It's just to TAB, and I chose the simplest melody ever. It should be instantly recognizable. If it's not then I screwed up. So, name that TAB:BTW I've got the musical notation around here somewhere...

I'm not big on TAB or any sort of muscal notation, but...
Would this be "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star?"?

Huh? You don't mean to say that TAB is NON-musical notation, do you?;)

Ah, you know what I mean, there's the thingie with the little notes, and then there's TAB same purpose, different format(or something). I'm ignorant, but I own it.

Hey, you guessed right! Now did you guess from my clues? Or did you guess from the TAB itsself? Either way you get a rep point. But I'm trying to train my ear, so I'm needing to know how far off I was.

If I could just figure out how to put the notes thingie for folks who read music but don't play guitar/read TAB, I could get their feedback as well.

It was from the TAB! I really "should" learn to read music, because I have an ear for it... I didn't even pick up my guitar, I know the strings are (mostly) a musical fourth apart, and I saw where the third and fourth notes were up two frets, so that's a fifth up from the first two notes... and yes, it IS the TAB for Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star![/quote]

Got software? I've used a cute shareware program called Noteworthy Composer. Just google it...

Huzzah! Well I used Powertab(wouldn't be able to format for tab w/o it(I don't know what I'm doing). So now, I'm thinking I might have to give Happy Birthday a whack. On account of someone in the forums where I'm taking lessons is trying to transcribe it, and couldn't get past the first line(well, that's her story and she's sticking to it).

Anyway, she's got a private teacher and fancy guitar, so, it's really tempting to try and get it right. Sort of a "fancy equipment, foia! who needs fancy equipment?" kind of a thing. I'm a dork like that.
