IMDBpro is pretty good for budgets and BOs - trouble is it's sometimes unclear where their info is coming from. But I do know that it is accurate on the few projects I've got a passing knowledge of.

I would say though that I would never tell a producer that my script is just like XYZ that made $123

If they are a company that does films like your script (and you should only be surveying such), then they know how much XYZ cost and made.

It's like telling a pharmacist "Hey. You know Aspirin is good for your heart?"

The Numbers is a good website. I've been visiting it regularly for quite awhile.

I don't know how they do things in India, but in Hollywood, these guys live off of the stats and read the trades every day.

Let me put it this way. Do you really think that the producer of Nightmare on Elm Street doesn't know off the top of his head what each Friday the 13th film cost and made?

Besides... Most American producers will tell you that just because a horror film about a supernatural villain cost 20 mil to make from producer A, starring a particular actor and brought in 120 mil worldwide, doesn't mean that another script with a similar storyline or plot would cost or bring in as much. There are variables.

The producers I know will tell you that the first things they think about when they read a query, logline, synopsis or even a full script are:

Do it love it?
Do I want to spend the next few years attached to it?
Who can I get to star?
Who can I get to direct?

and then finally... Can get the money to make it right?

All producers assume that if they do a project, it will make money. How much is a crap shoot dependent on when it is released. How much advertising is done. How many screens does it go in. Most of those factors are up to the releasing distributor or studio.
