Cathleen stared at the empty room before her. She sighed and picked up her suitcase and walked away from the forgotten memories. Jake her first love had taken everything form her long ago, including her trust. They had and off and on relationship for a while, but she finally ended it when he almost killed her. She walked out of the house and threw the key in the garbage. Opening the car door she turned to take one last look at the house. She sighed and entered the car, closing the door behind her. Starting the car she slowly pulled away out of the driveway. She knew it was better this way, she would be safer, happier, and yet a part of her still wanted to stay. She shook away the thought and pulled on to the dirt road, driving away from the house for the last time. Almost an hour later she was on a plane flying back to her home town in California, to see her parents and her sister. Cathleen paid no attention to the movie, all she could think about was Jake. "what if he cam after me?" she thought. she shuddered at the thought. Picking up her book she completely emerged herself in it until she reached her destination. As she stepped off of the landing she saw her sister standing, waiting for her. Cathleen ran to her sister, dropped her bags, and hugged her. "Cathleen, oh my what happened?" Elizabeth asked looking at the black eye that enclosed Cathleen's face. "My make up must have rubbed off." She thought to herself. "Well Jake and i had a disagreement." Cathleen said. "Over what?" Elizabeth asked picking up her sisters bags. "Whether of not i should live." Cathleen thought to herself. "Whether or not i should come stay here for a while." she said putting on a smile. "Well mom and pop and escatic to see you. come on the limos waiting." Elizabeth said leading Cathleen out to a black stretch limo. Cathleen's eyes widened and she dropped her mouth. "did you rent it?" she asked. Elizabeth looked at her sister funny and shook her head saying "No, we own it." Cathleen climbed in to the limo and sat back against the silky anteriors. "Driver, you may go." Elizabeth said after she was settled. "So tell me about Texas. what was it like?" Elizabeth asked turning to her sister. "Well, it was hot and dry. and that was just about it." Cathleen said smiling. She was glad to be home. They pulled into the driveway of a beautiful mansion, and Cathleen almost fainted. "Well, Welcome home sis." Elizabeth said stepping out of the limo. "One question, when did we become rich?" Cathleen asked. Elizabeth smiled and led Cathleen up the black pavement to the house. "We're home!" Elizabeth shouted walking in through the door. Cathleen poked her head in unsure of how to enter. But when she saw her mother and father she ran into their arms. "I missed you guys like crazy."Cathleen said. "Well, I'm just glad to have my baby back." Paula said. "Well lets get you unpacked." Dave said. he clapped his hands and all of Cathleen's things were taken upstairs. Cathleen tried to move out of their way but ended up bumping in to one of them and falling on the floor. "Ow!" she cried out and she hit the hard tile. "Oh my im so sorry." A man said. He kneeled down and helped her up. "are you alright Cathleen?" he asked. Cathleen nodded but couldn't stop staring. He looked to be in his mid twenties, tall, dark brown hair, blue eyes, and muscular. " Miss Cathleen, are you alright?" He asked again. She snapped back to reality and shook his hand. "Yes, im alright, sorry I'm so clumsy." she said smiling. Her Light blue eyes sparkled and she tucked aside some of her hair. "Well, you know my name, but i don't seem to know yours." She said smiling. "Its Zach." he said. He picked up a suitcase and walked up the stairs. "If you want i can show you where your room is." he said stopping. Cathleen nodded and followed him up the stairs. "Here we are." Zach said opening a door. Cathleen entered the room and almost died. It was huge! it had a queen sized bed with a golden headboard, a balcony, and a walk in closet. "Wwell i hope this is to you liking." Zach said bowing ot leave. "wait, please dont go." Cathleen said. She sat down on the bed and sighed. Zach looked at this beautiful woman asking him to stay. "Well, i guess i could take a little break." he said sitting down in one of the chairs. "Well ,what would you like to talk about?" he asked. Cathleen looked at him and smiled. "Well, this may sound a bit silly, but could you tell me About the security around here?" She asked. "Zach looked at her funny. "Why that?" he asked. "Well, its just, oh never mind, you wouldn't understand." Cathleen said walking over to the fireplace. Zach followed and placed his hand on her shoulders. "Try me." he whispered. "Well, its just i just got out of a very abusive relationship and i wanted to know how safe i was here." Cathleen said. Zach looked at her. "You were in an abusive relationship?" he asked. Cathleen nodded. She walked into the back room and whipped away all of the make up covering her bruises. When she emerged Zach almost fainted. Cathleen was covered with bruises from head to toe. "Oh my god. i need to get a doctor." Zach said walking to the door. "No!" Cathleen shouted. "You cant tell anyone about this." she said. "Well, why not?" he asked. "Well because i just don't want my parents finding out. they would be so sad for me, and i dont want that kind of attention." She said Zach nodded and embraced her.She looked up at him and smiled. "I know i just met you and all. "Zach started "But would it be okay if i kissed you?" he asked.Cathleen looked at him and nodded. He brought her face to hers and their lips pressed together. Zach pulled away and said "I shouldn't be doing this, its not right." he said. Cathleen shrugged and kissed his cheek. "See you around?" he asked. she nodded and began to unpack. A few hours later Cathleen was walking around the house looking for her sister. She came across a maid and asked "Um excuse me miss, could you please tell me where Elizabeth is?" "Yes, mam, she is in her room. would you like me to show you the way?" she asked. Cathleen nodded and the maid said "Well, this way then." Cathleen samiled and nodded. "So who are you?" she asked. "I am Tracy, just one of the many maids here." Tracy said smiling. In her hands she was holding a small locket. Cathleen smiled and asked. "Excuse me for asking, but what is in the locket?" Tracy looked down and said "Oh i didnt even know i had it out. well it has a picture of my husband and i guess i just keep it for saftey. hes in the war right now." Tracy said. Cathleen smiled and said "Oh im sorry." Tracy shook her head and said "No dont be. hes serving our country, and damn it thats just what this place needs." Cathleen smiled and they stopped at a door. "Well this is it." Tracy said. Cathleen smiled and said "Well thatnk you so much for helping me find my way." Tracy nodded and left. Cathleen entered her sisters room to find her making out with Zach. "Oh, sorry i didnt mean to interrupt!" Cathleen exclaimed. She looked embarrassed on the outside, but on the inside she was heart broken. She thought she had found the one true man of her dreams, but that was all a myth. Elizabeth got up and laughed. "Cathleen, he was showing me CPR. oh dont worry im not stealing your man, if that was what you were thinking." Elizabeth said laughing. Cathleen blushed and Zach led her out of the room. "What's wrong?" he asked holding her arm. Cathleen looked at him and smiled. "Nothing, nothing at all." she smiled again and pulled him into a long kiss. Zach pulled away and said "I could get fired for doing this." Cathleen looked sad and he thought. After about five min, he said " screw the rules." and he kissed her. she smiled anfd hugged him, they walked down the hall hand in hand to the kitchen. "Cathleen." Zach started. Cathleen looked at him and smiled. "Please dont be mad at me." he started. "Why would i be mad at you?" she asked. "Well, i called a doctor over to look at your bruises." he sais leading her into a room. "Zach? how could you?!?" cathleen asked. "I had to." He said. Cathleen shook her head and walkedo ut of the room. She stopped at the door and turned around. "I'm sorry but just stay out of my life from now on." She walked out of the room slamming the door behind her. "Oh dear." Tracy said as she bumped into Cathleen. "My dear what happened?" Tracy asked gently placing her heand to Cathleens warm cheek. "Its nothing!" Cathleen exploded. Tracy stepped back in alram and bowed her head. "I'm sorry madam." she said. "And stop calling me that. it geets annoying." Cathleen said. she stormed off in a huff out of the doors and down the black pavement to the entrance gates. "Oh, dear, what has happened." Cathleen asked. "There you are!" Jake called out. Cathleen lokked up and shook her head. "No! how did you find me?!" Cathleen asked. "Well, i know you better than anyone, i knew you would come crying back to your parents." Jake said. "Go away before i call the gaurds." Cathleen said. "Oh im so scared. go ahead and call them, im on the other side, so they cant do anything. now just please come home." he said. Cathleen shook her head and stepped back. "No way, im staying as far away form you as i possobly can." Jake pounded on the fencing and shouted "No! your coming with me right now!" he grabbed her arm and pulled her twoards him. he grabbed a hangful of her hair, with his free hand he grabbed her chim making herl look at him. "If you tell anyone i was here. i'll kill you." he let her go and ran off in the other direction. Cathleen dropped to her knees and cried into her hands. Zach approached her and place a hand on her back. "Cathleen what happened?" he asked. "I thought i said stay out of my life." Cathleen said looking at him. He smiled and shook his head saying "Never." Cathleen stood up and hugged him. "Now what happend to make you cry?" he asked. "It was nothing, just a lost memory that came back." she said. Zach nodded and asked "Jake?" Cathleen looked at him and asked "Yea, how did you know?" "Just a guess." he said. Chatleen smiled and hugged him again. "I dont know why, but i feel so safe in your arms." she said. She looked up at Zach and smiled. he leaned over and kissed her gently on the mouth. Cathleen smiled and Zach walked her to her room. "Well, i'll see you at lunch." he said. Cathleen nodded and kissed him goodbye. She entered her room and closed the door behind her. ther was a cold draft coming frim the open window. "I closed that this morning." Cathleen thought aloud. Jake approached her from behind and grabbed her arms and placing his open hand on her mouth. "Shhh, i wont hurt you." he said. Cathleen started to cry. "Now, all i want you to do is come home with me." Cathleen shook her head. Jake let her go and she said. "Never, not after the way you treated me." she said. Jake smaked her across the cheek sending her to the floor. "Dont ever say those words to me." he said. Chatleen held her cheek and glared at him through her tears. "Leave and never come back or else." she said. Jake grabbed a hadful of her hair and pulled her up to him. "Or what?" he whispered in her ear. Cathleen stayed silent and jake laughed. "Yea, thats what i thought." He let her go but then grabbed her sholders. He pulled her into a kiss and she tried to shove him away, but he held on. Jake looked over at the bed and threw Cathleen onto it. "Now, what can i do with my little bride?" he asked. "Im not you bride." Cathleen said. Jake locked her door and then the balcony window. "What are you doing?" she asked. "Shut up." jake said slapping her hard enought to knock her out. When she came to the room was dim, only lit by candles. Jake appeared in the bathroom dorway in nothing but a towel draped around him. Cathleen tried to move but she was tied to the bed. jake smiled
