All right, I have a question, inspired by the agent query thread.
I'm currently querying one YA book to about eight agents. I did a LOT of research before I started, picking out the agents that best suited my sort of work and were currently seeking YA. I made a list, ranking them all from my favorite to my least favorite, and made sure I had all their names/contact info correct.
So far, I've gotten four rejects and no requests for any partials.
Doesn't kill me. I'm willing to accept that this book isn't good enough. I'm working on something else right now, so soon I'll have a new project to query. So I'll probably send out a few more queries for this one, and then give up on this project.
Here's the question: I have a book finished that I like a lot, but that I'm not sure is really professional enough for publication. I've done many drafts of it and it's polished and ready to go and the it's best I can make it, but I don't think it's my strongest piece of work.
But should I send out queries for it anyway? Do I have anything to lose? I'm leaning towards yes--otherwise, I risk having nothing out if the one I'm querying now gets fully rejected before I've finished my WIP.
So...should I prepare some queries?
