Anyone familiar with the speed metal band MOTORHEAD? They were really popular back in the 80's, and are today... Was only curious if anyone here has heard of them. :)

I once interviewed the great and wonderful Lemmy Kilmeister, who is just about the only heavy metal performer who truly looks like heavy metal. I made the mistake of mentioning that I had an interview with Paul Simon later in the day. Lemmy then growled and accused me of only interviewing him because I had to be in the neighborhood. I feared for my life for the rest of the hour.

My husband loved them and all things metal when he was a teenager. Of course, he grew up to be a stodgy conservative, but that's another story. :tongue

Great band, but just got to say his name is Lemmy Kilmister.

Popmuze - you interviewed him and Paul Simon? That is impressive. Paul Simon always comes across as morose, but what was Lemmy like? I've seen him in interviews and he seems a smart guy.

"No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith" is a great live album.

EDIT: ... and it's Motörhead. Before somebody corrects me. But umlauts are tricky to find. Apologies for waffling.

Great now I've got "Ace of Spades" stuck in my head. It wouldn't be a bad thing, but I'm trying to learn "Big Yellow Taxi" for my guitar lessons and well, if suddenly Joni Mitchell sounds like Lemmy Kilmeister...

It's all your fault!!!

Have fun :). Play the "Count the moles" game. It's fun and the number changes each time you look at Lemmy. Me I like his moles, they lend him a certain character which could be mistaken for charm :D.

Oh and he gives good woman's advice too. Really well rounded :D.

If you would give anything to have interviewed Lemmy, Lemmy surely would have taken it.

But, like most heavy metal musicians who project a gruff and empty headed image onstage, Lemmy was quite articulate (I'm tempted to say "clean and articulate") during interviews. Very cagey and hilarious.

And when you got him talking about Hawkwind, you saw that he was virtually a fallen hippie.

P.S. That's not only Lemmy and Paul Simon, but Lemmy and Paul Simon on the same afternoon!

P.P.S. Kilmister? One of my trusted sources says Kilminster. But he'll always be a Kilmeister to me.

Seen Motorhead a few times, used to run into Lemmy fairly often at the Marquee Club in the mid-80s whenever there was a rock band playing.
As other people have said, smart and articulate guy.

Popmuze - You're right. Sorry for that. I've seen Kilminster before as well. He can call himself what he wants. I would not argue with the Honourable Warty One.

Lemmy is cool. Years ago on British TV he did some acting in "The Comic Strip" - a comedy show. He was pretty good.

Really enjoyed reading his autobiography "White Line Fever". Great man, great band, great attitude.

And yeah, Black Label Society is cool too.

Seen both of them live, both of them killer!

Agreed, "White Line Fever" is one of the more enjoyable biographies I've read.

Seeing them in November with Alice Cooper.

Lemmy... on The Comic Strip?!

Name your price. I would so love to see that. I've only seen a few Comic Strip pieces, but they've all been utterly brilliant and gutbustingly funny. The one Motörhead doco I've seen was superb. Lemmy, and the others, gave great interviews.

Being a big Damned fan, I also liked "Over the Top" by Motördamned - a joint effort.

I met Lemmy and the rest of Motorhead a few times. I drove them around a bit when they stayed at a hotel I worked at. Lemmy was a cool guy but I was a little nervous talking to him because he was Lemmy. But you could tell he was an old campaigner because he seemed comfortable with my being a little starstruck.
