I believe most agents and editors, and some writers, have subscriptions to Publishers Marketplace.

www.publishersmarketplace.com

They send out a daily newsletter called Publishers Lunch that highlights book deals and news in the industry. There is a cost to subscribe. They do send out a free daily version of the newsletter, but it doesn't contain as much information as the paid version (of course :D).

One of these days I'm going to go the paid route... :) For now I get the free one, and I find out some things, sometimes.

Yes, I agree with the above. I have the free version and it's a nice little perspective on what's happening.

I do the same and surf around several industry blogs.

I also read Publishers Marketplace. If you go to the main site, check out their blogs, too. There are a number of good ones, and most are updated frequently.

I read http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat (Galleycat) as well. Industry trends, links to other industry blogs and articles, news about new releases, photos, and gossip. They do about 10 posts a day, so there's always plenty to read.
