Thanks for posting this.

I'm floored... these guys have a "monthly King meeting"... wow!

I think I might like Duma Key. I've been, er, avoiding King's work lately. Ever since the Dark Tower, Book What the Hell Happened to the Story. Grrr.

At what point in the story did you stop? I love the Dark Tower. Some of his ideas blew my mind. As soon as I finish reading all the books that add to the mythology (Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis, Black House, etc.), I'm going to give the series a second read through. I can understand why some people wouldn't like it though.

Well... I stopped reading after I waited years and years and years for Wizard and Glass, wanting desperately to find out what would happen after the humongous cliffhanger at the end of The Wastelands -- and then, finally, discovering that no, I was not to find out anything other than this huge story about Roland's childhood, and the story itself wasn't going to advance at all until the next book. Maybe.

Not that Roland's story wasn't fantastic. It would have made a great book all by itself. And I adored the first three books.

Honestly, even the backmatter and description for 5, 6, and 7 put me off from even attempting the rest of the series. I'm sure it's splendidly done -- he is King, after all -- but come on. It's the ultimate freakin' Gary Stu. He didn't even bother changing his name...

I will readily admit that I could be wrong. After all, I haven't read those last three books. I just don't think I could take it. :D

The last three Dark Tower books were hard. I read volume 5 and 6 when they came out and had every intention of finishing volume 7 when it came out in fall 2004, but I had to quit after about 150 pages. I picked it up again last month and I'm about halfway through the 800 pages right now, but it's going to be hard to finish. Maybe I can finish before fall, in less than three years.

When I look back at all the DT books, the first three seem good, but only the first one was really good. Even now, struggling through volume 7, thinking about how bad the series got, I occassionally think about rereading the first book.
