Scanning the other threads, it would seem this is allowed-

I just got a new lovebird a few days ago. He is to keep my other lovebird, Riki, company. Even though Riki is madly bound to me, he needs someone to share the day with when I'm away/busy.

So, my new lovebird is of the Peachface species. His face is white however (a mutation) and his body is cobalt. He looks a bit like a great white shark... dark tips line his face, standing out against the white...

I named my Budgie (that's parakeet in common speak, and Budgerigar in full) Coracoid- it means Crow's Beak Like in latin and is a bone specific to birds (similiar words are used for mammalian muscles, etc). Anyone who comes up with an awesome latin name will have major kudos from me.

As for my other lovebird, he is named Riki after Kakariki- the New Zealand parakeet that shares a similiar coloring to him. Anyone who comes up with a kewl down under name will also get kudos.

A bit more about the new kid- He's bloody smart. Once he settled in, he spent more time looking around and watching me than anything else. He studies me when I move around. He's figured out to go onto his perch when I scold him, etc.
He is also very lonely as he has to sit in quarantine (in the corner of my living room). He is not use to being alone but he is adjusting. He's not hand tame (unlike Riki) but when I pick him up he rarely bites, even though he's had a go at me a few times when scared enough. All in all a nice bird, with tons of personality from what I can see...

So, any takers?

Cheers,
Christina

PS- both lovebirds are confirmed males. For anyone wondering, Coracoid is a female, and her mate is Blueberry- but I did not name him. I also have some cockatoos in my house, but that's another story, lol

Peachy? Orca. Frenchy. Hoodie. Tiki?

Sorry, I don't know any Aussie names.

Some latin names: Caelus (Roman god of the sky), Albus (means: white), Carcharodon carcharias (latin name for great white shark)--might be a bit long.

Greek: pteryx (means: wing or fin) or pteron (means: feather or wing)--both used in naming bird-like dinosaurs.

It would be good to pick something that sounds good with Riki. You will probably start using their names in a pair: Riki and Carcharodon Carcharias rolls off the tongue. :D

LOL, awesome suggestions guys!
Greek names work as well, since greek works into medical terms as well ;)
And to clarify- it's Riki, no c- ReeKey. And no a either, he doesn't stink, lol (Reaky) :)
So far I like Corker the best, but I'm not sure it fits him
I've thought of other 'wing' names- Alula, etc, but nothing fits.... except Cobie (for Cobalt) and I gotta get him a new name before that one sticks! Ack!

If I named him Carcharias, then I could call him Carcass for short, lol

Keep em coming!
Cheers,
Christina

Good point, but he is napping now so you'll have to wait before I scare the poop out of him with my massive camera (from his pov anyways)
I thought of another possibility for him this morning, scanning some Aussie parrot lists- Dacelo, which means Kingfisher in latin... technically it means Australian Kingfisher, aka Kookaburra (as in, Laughing Kookaburra, Spangled Kookaburra, etc) which I find humorous, and he does have vaguely similar markings to some Kookaburras...
Not sure it fits, but 'Riki and Dacelo' doesn't sound too bad ;)
He should wake soon and I'll get some pics!
Cheers,
Christina

Very pretty bird. How about Sentinel? He seems to be very observant.

Oh, he is adorable! Thanks for the pic. :)

As for names, I kinda like Harley, too. Oh, and Domino, because that was my first cockatiel's name and I love it.

Now tell us about the 'toos! :D

SO beautiful! I almost got a love bird but I heard they are nippy. Have you thought so? We were going to get a peachfaced.

Instead we got a green cheek conure..soooo playful and funny! We also have a cockatiel who says 'pretty bird' and 'hello george' and whistles etc. Holly is a headbanger, that's about it. lol

Sentinel, hm, I could work with that... Perhaps Argus? It's a big name for a little bird, but maybe he'll grow into it :)

The 'toos are a handful. The umbrella, Gypsy, is mine. Daffy is a rare 'too (Timel or some such) and is here for 'summer camp' to keep Gypsy company. Gypsy sadly needs a new home as I have too many critters and not enough time! (I also have a pregnant horse!)

The only Lovebird I know well is Riki- and yes, he is NIPPY. I almost broke him of it, and then he went through quarantine to be allowed in the US (I was studying overseas) and oh boy. I've mostly given up keeping him from Not Biting Ever, but he knows he's not allowed to bite hard or overenthusiastically. This new guy seems like he won't be nippy though, but I won't know until he's hand tame...

Cheers,
Christina

Piper (after a Piper Cub airplane)

He reminds me of one of those little airplanes they made back in the 30s.

By the way, when you get a few more posts, you can use that photo as your avatar.

Keep an eye on alleycat. He's being very helpful so I'm willing to bet the first choice for a name running through his head, that he's not offering up, would be 'lunch'. ;)

Oh my Lord, he's adorable ! He looks like a statue with a HUGE head and a short body :D

Someone a few posters up suggested Tiki - he does look like a Tiki doll. The image that came to my head instantly when I saw this picture was that of the movie Space Balls - the character in the GIANT Darth Vader helmet.

Can't remember . . . I think he was just called Helmet. Have to check on that. (and no, that's not a great bird name, I know !) :D

Ya'll are too funny!

He does actually have a neck, it's just tucked up in that photo. Under those feathers he's just a scrawney thang.

But Lovebirds do look like the stocky Rugby players of the parrot world. I'll add creative Rugby names to the kudos list!

Cheers,
Christina

PS- Argus will definitely not work- doesn't suit him. I should play around more with the other names, but keep those ideas rolling!

PS- yep, I've been working on personal avatar status. That spot is reserved for my Starling- I had to leave her behind in Delaware, but I have lots of cute pics :)
My starling is creatively enough named Star, but only b/c she had a tuff of white above her eyes when she was but a fledgling- and on horses that mark is called a star. I couldn't resist :)
Cheers,
Christina
