My monitor fried out on me a few minutes ago. I knew old betsy was on her last legs, but had procrastinated about buying a new one. With a sizzling sound, she went black.
I've hooked up a tiny 9" Black and white monitor that I had laying around, and for the next few days at least, I'll be forced to do my writing this way.
Anyway, what's funny is I kind of like it because it reminds me of my old brother word processor, with it's puny 7" green screen. I remember getting very absorbed in that little monitor.

I remember using TTY-style green screen terminals. The letters were huge.
And I also remember the first graphics tubes. They "drew" the image, monochrome, instead of dot-matrix refresh. These were made by CalComp and other now-defunct firms.

I remember those green monitors too.
Strange that you both have the same number of posts!!!
Must get out more...............

Assuming 'old betsy' was your monitor, why was she procrastinating about buying a new one? Wouldn't that be your job?
(Can anybody tell I'm doing rewrites at the moment ;) )

Fortunately, my hulking CRT gave up the ghost around Christmas time. Hellooo, flat panel! :D

Called around to the electronics stores today and found a flat-panel LCD screen for $150 bucks. Of course it was the display model. It's also only 14 inches - no larger than my old CRT, but to my suprise, it has much better resolution.
On the CRT the best I could do was 800 X 600 and still have things be readable. With this monitor I'm at 1024 x 768 on the same size screen, but it's very easy on the eyes.
------------
For the record though, my writing session last night on the puny 9" BW monitor was one of the best I've had in a long time. :)
