I hope this is the right forum for this thread; it's genuinely word-related but could end up as a free-for-all if someone like Haggis or Rllgthunder gets involved. And let's not even mention SpookyWriter.

Thread title says it all. How many words can we come up with that just sound funny, even for reasons unrelated to their definition?

As I've just mentioned in another thread, my latest 'favourite word' is:

Manpon

What about everyone else - what words make you laugh just because they look funny? They don't even have to be in the dictionary, just normal, everyday slang.

I've never met a word I didn't laugh at.

Parabolica I heard this word first when my husband was watching motorbike racing set in Italy on the TV. I liked the sound, it made me laugh because it sounds so much like 'pair of bollocks' :D

This word, to me, has always sounded more like a disease...or what happens when we go off our carb diets...

Volvo

it's too close to vulva...so everytime I drive mine, I wonder how long before the GPS guides me to Uterus Lane or Overies OverPass....and then there's always Womb Way and Nipple Farm...but it requires a few more sandwiches than my picnic can handle...and Haggis....

Words with a silent g at the beginning always strike me as funny, such as:

gnarled
gnaw
gnome
gnu
gnostic

I hate the word crack. For some reason, it always makes me laugh.

Spotted Dick

It's some crazy food in England. Nope, haven't tried it. Wouldn't be able to refrain from requesting a medical release be served with it. Not to mention the horrific blush that would come over me.

It's really quite good. I ordered one just to say I've had it!!

It consists of a muffin with, if I remember correctly, cream or ice cream with raisins on top. Don't worry about blushing, you know it won't bother the staunch English to just come out and ask for one.
