**Mild language warning**

Recently, I don't know why and I don't really care, I've got this strange notion in my head. I can't shake it. No matter how serious I try to keep my fiction, the thought just keeps creeping back into my head. I can ignore it for a while, but it always comes back.

I'm tired of writing about normal people in difficult situations. I want to write about a badass.

I haven't seen it done often, but every once in a while I come across a short story where pacing and general awesomeness are accorded hallowed spots of honor. Character development? Please. Theme? Yeah, whatever. How about this guy over here? Better watch out, reader, he's gonna rough you up. Yeah, that's right, you just hang back and watch the show. Everything's taken care of.

And from paragraph one, the pedal's floored.

I've got this bug, see? Got it real bad. I need to write a story like this. I need to write hardcore.

Back when Tribe had his Flashing in the Gutters site (now gone, alas!) it was a perfect place for me to experiment with edgy stuff and get some instant critiques. But there are *lots* of markets out there - paying markets! - that not only take this hard edged fiction, but specialize in it.

Write your story. Go for character development, but don't skimp on the other qualities that make a real story. There are some pretty raw stories out there if you know where to look.

Try these places for fun:
Thuglit: http://www.thuglit.com/home.html
Spinetingler: http://www.spinetinglermag.com/shotgun_opera_review.htm
(This will open to a piece on Victor Gischler, a great edgy writer)
Shots: http://www.shotsmag.co.uk/ (A UK zine)

Best of luck...

Badass

So write it. You don't need permission. You're supposed to write any story that grabs your fancy.

Even if you cannot sell it (which I doubt is true), you'll have learned something and have had fun at the same time. I don't see any downsides to writing this story.
