When I was writing my previous book (which is now selling very successfully, and has been for a year and a half) there was one chapter that I wasn't comfortable writing (didn't feel expert enough). I spent a lot of time doing research. I procrastinated and it took a long time to write. I wasn't particularly interested in the subject, so I made a point of trying to be professional and making it as complete as possible. Almost all of this, of course, was cut to make the book shorter.
So now I'm working on another book. I'm on the chapter that I find least interesting. Instead of taking a week to write, I've been working on it for 5 weeks now. I did additional research. I'm making my best effort and trying to do the subject justice.
Do you think I should discuss it with my editor now, so that she can tell me just not to bother, to cut my losses and move on to the next chapter NOW?
Have you had this kind of experience?
