I've now assembled several excerpts from my novel and am ready to start submitting them to literary magazines. On the guidelines, a few magazines say they accept excerpts, most don't mention it. The question is, should I?
Not that I'm any judge at this point, but to me, I've edited all of these excerpts to read like stand alone stories. Would it make any difference in submitting to leave out that a given piece comes from an as yet unpublished novel?
If the piece was accepted, then would I have to mention it? Would the editor then feel I'd tried to put something over on him or her?
