There is no industry standard on this.

Use whatever works best to tell your story and write well.

Whatever feels right when you write the story. Also, if an editor is interested, they might tell you if they feel the story would be better told in the other POV and ask for a rewrite.

There's no industry standard, but re: this thread, the vast majority of urban fantasy novels (and paranormal romance) are written first person.

You'll find both, and they create totally different effects. If first person, then the reader only learns things as the protag learns them. It can be effective to move the plot line along at a very fast pace. It can create drama as the protag is shocked to find out this or that.

But it's much more difficult to "illuminate" the other characters in the novel. If you use third person, you can use multiple POV's, so for example you can have narrative from the villain's POV (as long as you don't reveal who he or she is). So it's far more flexible. If you're writing in first person, the reader will only see the other characters from the protag's point of view, and his/her perceptions may obviously be right or wrong.

In third person, you can also write about multiple events happening at the same time (such as a murder happening while the protag is sleeping). You can't do this in first person, each event comes to the protag in sucession, as he/she finds out what happened when.

There is no standard, but some genres are much more receptive to first person than others, and a great many mysteries are written in first person.
