DISCUSSION: Odes to Poets Contest

Welcome, everyone, to the Odes to Poets Contest!

There are seven entries - listed here (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64382). The poets here took on a daunting task for a contest; the results speak volumes. They're excellent.

Please read the works and send your votes to me by Private Message (PM) by MIDNIGHT US EASTERN TIME, on Monday, May 21.

WHAT YOU'LL SEE:
Each poem is an ode to a poet or poem; at the end of each poem is a link to a work or works by the poet. Please read the entries themselves and follow the links; they'll give you an idea of what inspired our own poets.

HOW TO VOTE:
Send me a PM (one per person) with the title "VOTE: Odes to Poets". In the subject line, send me the titles of up to three of your favorite entries, in order from first to third.

Well, you'd think it'd be easier to vote with fewer entries but...it's not. Had to come to the library to read these (our server's down), and it was definitely worth the trip. Great stuff, and I'm enjoying reading the links, too!

Tough choices... Kinda hedged in favor of poems which "touched" me; after years of judging college poetry contests, largely on prosody, being able to enjoy a poem is a treat.

There were some wonderful entries. I was surprised to find, however, that the poems I liked best were not about the poets I like best!
