The 20 minute challenge

Here's the challenge: Sometime this weekend, find a place where you won't be disturbed. For 20 minutes, tell God everything you know about Him; everything you know about who He is and what He's done. Say it out loud.

This exercise is similar to running - you'll probably hit the wall after 5 - 10 minutes and be forced to dig deeper than you've dug in a while. That's when you are truly transformed. Remember - this isn't a normal prayer time - don't talk about yourself, don't ask for anything, don't worry about anything, just tell God who He is.

So who's up for the challenge? Don't make me call people out. Oh, and this will help with your writing too.

My first thought was this could be quite scary.

I have a 'thing' about being emotionally exposed and I think telling God all that you know about him says a lot more about you than it does about Him. After all, he's complete in himself and doesn't need to listen to our validations.

But he does though.

Perhaps it could lead to Him revealing to us what more we need to know about Him...even though the Bible says His ways are unreachable.

(Can't you just tell I come from a religious background? I must capitalise Him)!

So I'll take that to mean you're gonna do it It's definitely an intimidating exercise, but one that I've found immensely gratifying. So often, I'm like a prison inmate staring at a yellowing picture of his beloved family. So often, that's what my prayer life amounts to - melancholy wistfulness. But taking time to fully reflect on God is like being released from that prison and actually hugging my family. Delving into God's loving character and perfect power is a transforming experience. It should be intimidating, but it is also thrilling.
