Good Word

Hello. I have a confession to make. I've been lurking on the April 500 words thread. A lot. :D I needed to keep track of how Murphy the Muse was doing.
I have been working in fits and starts on my rewrite.
Especially the fits.

No new words, but doing a final (I hope) edit for my Bad Genie. I WILL send out queries next week. I'll add new words to War of the Crickets tonight.

Ha! Apparently Murphy doesn't like being watched -- I was a lazy bum today. (Well, ok, I worked late and went for a walk with my mom. Same difference. :tongue) I am starting to get worried about the wordcount vs. how much story's left...I'm going to be doing a lot of cutting!
[how can I never manage to remember when it's a new month??]

:Ssh: I just sent off the first two four five queries for The Bad Genie. I feel naseous.
Ooooohhhh! Crossing fingers for you Soccer Mom!!! :D
Why do I always stall out after finishing a big project. I have to get back on the horse and get some words, not just thoughts! :whip:

I hear that. My poor little WIP is being eaten by Genie queries even as we speak. I should be writing new stuff.

I wrote a short story yesterday... I think it was around 1500 words, or maybe more. YAY! (I did it while I was supposed to be working... BOO!)
Soccer Mom
05-05-2007, 05:08 AM
Wow. Are we a bunch of deadbeats or what?
I've decided my WIP should be first person POV and I've been re-writing it. (I was only a chapter in anyway.)
I've gotten two rejections on the email queries and I sent one new one out. I hope to get one more e-query out tonight. And some beta reading. And finish re-writing my chapter.
I hope there's no posting because everyone is simply too busy writing.
That's it. Right? :Sun:
ETA: Done. I sent out the new e-query to replace today's rejection and wrote 500 new words. Now I'm off to beta. Where is everyone? Do they all have lives except for me?
I'm here Soccer Mom, no worries! :D I've just been slacking off wordwise. Toying with building a blog, making a real dent in my TBR pile, plotting the next novel, and (gasp) housecleaning.
So I guess I can either post how many dust bunnies I've chased down :sleepy: ...or how much pre-writing I'm getting done. ;) So far I'm getting a little stuck -- I think I need to get out Holly's Create a Character Clinic and get to know my MC a little better before I can get to the good stuff. :Sun:

Hah! :Sun: You can post on your request for a partial! Good job, moth.
I, on the other hand, can post about my latest rejection. Evidently, some of the agents at Writer's House work weekends. Oh well. Time to send out another query. ANd to add new words to WIP.
Hah! :Sun: You can post on your request for a partial!
I put up a whole thread about it...don't want to sound bigheaded by mentioning it in more than one place...;)

:Hug2: New words to WIP are great medicine...but nothin' beats chocolate. Here you go. Just don't get smears on the keyboard (you know that comes through on the e-queries! Chocolate smudges all over an agent's desk!).
ETA: I hope everybody else in this thread is getting words too...BIC wishes going out! *grin*

No new rejections today! Whoot. :D gotta find the joy where you can.
You rock, Annie! You add new words every day. I'm very impressed.

What, you missed the four days or so where I dropped off the face of the board this last time? :tongue
(I have to be stubborn about this, 'cause otherwise Murphy will flake on me totally. And this way I'm not too hard on myself when work and such crowds out words. Or even basketball. ;) )

Look at it this way, God called me to write. Some of my best inspiration has come in the pew, that's why I always carry a notebook to church.

Newbi Here :flag:
I am actually stating a new project (and it's a few days into May...) but my goal is to write AT LEAST 1000 words a day for the next 30 days of my "Semester Break" in school.
A good friend recomended this thread to me, so I thought I'd stop by!

Hi, Husker! Welcome to the madness. I look forward to seeing your progress.

I'm crawling into bed for the night; but I'm so excited with how my writing went today that I thought I'd stop by here!
I was starting a new piece today; had a thought of where it was going and so I sat down to write and it took a whole different direction! But one that I'm even more excited about!
I quickly pounded out 1600 words! So now I'm off to bed to hopefully sleep without too much thought on this piece!

ems, those make for great days!!
I'm having a lot of trouble getting motivated today... I'm going to sit down in an hour or so and force myself to write on my WIP; even if it's crap that comes out.
Husker@Heart
05-10-2007, 04:32 AM
I just finished; it came rather smoothly today although I'm fairly certain I'll remove at least 1/3rd of todays writing in editing :( After I wrote it, I felt that it was just repetitive. But the rule for my current "challenge" to myself is no touching after it's written; not until the whole thing is done.
1531 words today for a total of 4805 on my WIP! (I started 3 days ago, so I'll call it good for now!)
Soccer Mom

Wrote a flash fic piece: 300 -500 words. (I haven't counted yet. It's still in longhand. I'll type tomorrow.) Edited another chapter in a mystery I'm prepping for submission to a contest. Obsessively checked emails regarding queries sent. Did a little beta reading.

I'm jealous. I technically got 500 words because that is how long the one article I managed to write today was, but I was SUPPOSED to write 6 articles in addition to my "creative ventures". I had a bad day. :(
You guys have been doing great! :Sun: :Sun: :Sun: WTG!!

Soccer Mom, Handwritten?? You are far more brave than I!! (Although I rarely have a chance with a pen and paper... *really long story* so my computer has to due...)
WildScribe, One article is better than none!! (I had a rough writing day yesterday too and forced myself to sit and write...)
Moth, Thanks for the werlcome :) Pre-writing? I suppose that's a technique I've never tried...
AnnieColleen

Nuthin' yesterday. Round goes to Murphy.
Hopefully tonight!
Moth, Thanks for the werlcome :) Pre-writing? I suppose that's a technique I've never tried...
Actually me either...lol. This is my first time actually plotting a novel from beginning to end before writing it. Kind of feeling my way.
Holly's Plot Clinic is a huge help. I spent twenty minutes with it this morning and after doing only one excercise I had so much stuff. It astounded me because I hadn't expected it to work so well. I hope the other excercises prove as useful!
My new plan (cross fingers) is to take the rest of May to plot this out, then draft it in June. 2000 words a day for thirty days. It's YA so 60k is dead on. I'll probably be taking that same challenge as you, Husker (trying not to edit while still drafting), since re-re-re-writing while writing is a trap I always fall into.
And just to prevent a jinx...*knocks on wood*

Wow Mom! What a haul! :e2cheer: Good for you!
Getting glimmers of my new idea, which I do still hope to plot out entirely by the end of May and write during June. No words, but glimmering is good.
And I've also decided to shelve the book I queried agents about. I'm still insanely proud of it, but it strikes me as something that would be better published later on down any career-line I might ever have, as a non-debut. I'm fine with all the rejections I got. They stung but really it's all right. I'll just wrap it up carefully and hang on to it.

Did some more editing on my novel yesterday, finally. I fear that it sucks as bad as I thought it did, but I am trying to fix the grammar and ignore everything else on the first pass, or I will get completely overwhelmed. Freelance has been crazy for the past few weeks. I am desperately trying to carve out some time to myself next week.
Oh, and my brother thinks it would be a good idea to make some money on the side freelancing, too. He wants me to hook him up. :e2faint:

Posted a new story in suddenly fiction. I'm gonna start submitting some shorts next week. Started a new short story yesterday, ~1000 words on it. Current novel has sort of stalled some I'm going to query the Genie book around, finish editing the mystery and submit my shorts. That ought to keep me off the streets. :D
But I'm taking the Cub Scouts camping for three days. :flag:

But on the up side, my bosses agreed to let me take all of next week off the rest of the work to concentrate completely on finishing this course. I still get paid, just work at home instead of the office.
