Here is a quote I came across recently:
"Writing is like prostitution. First you do it for love. Then you do it for a few friends. Finally you do it for money."
Is that true for you?:rolleyes

For love ("Nobody's writing the sort of erotica I want to read, or not well anyway!"), for a few friends ("Yes, Hot2Trot, those kinky stories are mine; glad you liked them!"), and finally for the princely sum of a penny-and-a-half per word. Luckily the guy doesn't mind, or can't recognize, well-done padding...
I still find my own erotica the most enticing of what I read. (Go figure, huh?) I've long since passed the point where I'll give away quality work to websites, and now I refuse to sell it cheaply ever again.
That severely limits what I can do with it, since I won't/can't write "romantic erotica." Mainstream print erotica is in trouble, of course, facing competition online which is both free and anonymous for the reader.
I seem to have a knack for finding shrinking markets!
Maryn, thanking you for the interesting quote
