Hi,

I was wondering what people here thought of the Best American Erotica Series and where it fit in the genre. It seems to be both literary and broad, giving us a taste of much of contemporary erotic writing. What kind of publications are best represented by this series? Is this the creme de la creme of erotic writing? Opinions?

Thanks,

I used to buy them when I could only access the mainstream end of the genre. I still consider them to be excellent collections of writing of that type--literary in tone, short and perhaps trying just a little to hard to be sexually adventurous. BAE stories are always worth reading, largelt because of the involvement if Susie bright IMHO--I think it is her taste that comes through? The 99' edition had some Batman slash that really cracked me up but had a serious side to it too--thought provoking.

I happened to pick up one of the BAE books at a used book sale and while I liked the stories okay, they definitely are not what I was hoping for. I guess I'm used to the more "hardcore" erotica...these are definitely on the literary end of the genre.

I've browsed through a few of those, and I thought they were more "literary" erotica.
