Stealing Julian Black's idea in another thread: I googled my protagonist. His real-life counterpart is a photographer, living in San Francisco. No big deal, that one.

I googled mine and found a few but the top hit came out to be a Youth and Family Services counselor.

Whheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! How fun.

Did you find a match?

My MC is Laura, no last name. I am guessing that I would get a LOT of hits off of that! ;)

One doesn't exist, another is a jazz singer, and another one signed a petition.

Whoa. I got a 1957 (The Corsican) High School year book. The super weird thing is that the person below "Clayton Carver" is Dianne Carver.
In my book, Clay's sister is Diana. Weird coincidence!!!

The only one I found was an 18 yearold guy (my MC is a girl) from Tunisia on Myspace. Oddly the rest of the entries were actually my character.

I have some "real" main protagonists from various scripts. One of them I happen to know is my cousin's full name. It wasn't intentional though. I just started writing the script and had a first name for a few weeks, and when it came time for a last name, I decided on the most boring everyday name I could think of: Brown. And only a few weeks after that did I realize that THAT first name and THAT last name together are my cousin's name. (And, according to Google, an astronaught's name.)

Another is a photographer in Colorado.

Another is a platinum-level benefactor of an art museum in California.

Another is a Broadway performer from the 1920's.

Another doesn't exist.

Then I have some fantasy main protags. These are supposed to be totally made up names comepletely from my brain and should have nothing to do with anything here on God's green Earth. If I google the fanatsy names and even THEY turn up, then it's back to the drawing board. Here's what I came up with:

1) My fantasy bad guy is found on a Spanish language web site headquartered in Chile. It's a web site that sells domain names. And THAT name is currently available. :)

2) My fantasy good guy doesn't exist anywhere on the web.

3) None of my other supporting fantasy characters exist anywhere on the web.

(I guess my fantasy names are safe then. ;) )

"Bianca Olivier" plays lacrosse in Canada.

"Jared Ross" played college hockey a few years ago.

For a book I am pitching this fall:

"Alexandra Petrukhin" doesn't exist. Her pseudonym, "Lexie Brooks," is the maiden name of a character on Days of Our Lives. "Thomas Brooks" was a Puritan preacher.

Fun!

Lexie ran away with the guy she cheated on her huband with because he shot some guy and she was a witness... :tongue

The protagonist for Dead Dreams is an investigative reporter. His real life counterpart is a journalist. Go figure.

All right.
Ian Traeger is a member of the CSF, which (seriously):

"was set up in 1991 to ensure that aproportion of the revenue received by the Government from electronic gaming machines in hotels was made available for worthwhile projects of benefit to the Victorian community."

Oh my goodness.

And my lead girl is a world famous Marilyn Monroe impersonator. Sweeet.

My female protagonist had no matches. Probably because the first name "Dahlia" is pretty darned uncommon.

Her love interest brought up the home page someone put up about their toddler son and his baby sister. Everyone together: Awwwwwww.....

My MC seems to be an athlete...actually, SEVERAL athletes. None famous, though, so I'm good to go.

Oh, what fun! My protagonists have weird names so I'm not expecting much, but here goes:

(going a-Googling)

Okay, I'm back. The protagonists of my three novels didn't get any hits (I'm not surprised), but the protagonist of my e-pubbed novella got a bunch, the first of which was a published author's web site under "her name" about how to write a Blockbuster.

Protag of TPB: Nothing. Every hit is about my book. Aren't there anyone named Greg Lockland?

Protag of my NIP: a chemistry researcher and a military captain. Cool. Gives me some idea.

On the flip side of this, MY name comes up as someone ELSE's main character...of a romance novel, nonetheless. Hawt.

BTW, my name is pretty unusual.
