My crime story, Art Recovery, Inc., started out to have just over 100,000 words but then I had to remove some dead wood and it hovered at about 96,000-words before I looked again and took out more unnecessary 'stuff' so it's now close to 93,000 words. I can't believe it doesn't need an outside reader to point me in the direction of making it better yet ... and ready to start the search for agent representation.
A brief look at the story:
At first the idea was to take advantage of the situation and get revenge, but then Nick Coulter realized there could be money, lots of money, made. All he had to do is find out who stole the authentic eagle feather war bonnet once worn by Geronimo and return it.
Naturally, with his background, a northern California county deputy sheriff until he got fired and now making a kind of living repossessing cars and trucks for a bank, searching for something like a Native Indian feather duster should be easy. Shouldn’t it?
To open doors and make things easier, Nick creates a mythical company, Art Recovery Inc. But what is he to do when someone comes along with a valuable stolen painting and asks his non-existent company to get it back to its owners with out getting anyone arrested? Or how about helping a young art student get out from under an illegal art forgery scam?
These problems are only part of what Nick and his bogus business gets involved with. There’s the ocean-going fishing boat to steal, uh, repossess, and did I mention Phaedra, the beautiful long legged brunette with a closet full of short skirts? In this modern world there is some question about what exactly art really is.
If anyone is interested in mentoring/critiquing this, I would be forever and ever grateful ... and even let you put my name on your Christmas shopping list.
Within a few days or so I will have my website back up and running ... check it out -- www.bill-sheehy.com/
thanks and, as we western writers say, Happy trails to you ...
