Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’

And so it goes, I suppose. Oh, well.

Terrible loss. He was born about fifty miles from where I live, be he's considered a local writer, one of our own, no matter where you live in this state.

Kansas! Again.
Man, this sucks.

My dad and I read Cat's Cradle together, outloud, switching out chapters.

I loved Vonnegut's stuff.

To be honest though, to be in your eighties and to have chain smoked unfiltered Pall Malls throughout your life, well, that's a pretty good run.

He called it "a classy way of committing suicide."

I assume the "classy" was meant to be ironic.

Sad news. I read, and loved many of his books. I'm saddened to see him go.

I was so affected by him. He changed what I wanted to read, and he changed the way I wrote. RIP, Mr. Vonnegut.

That's really sad. He was awesome, but I mean at least he lived a full life and really made a difference in the lives of lots and lots of people. He will be missed though.

He's one of those people that you know isn't immortal, but you never expect them to die, and when they do die, it's eerily dream-like.

I'm sorry to hear of Vonnegut's death. I was very inspired by his writing and his death will diminidh the world of contemporary literature.

That's exactly how I felt when I read his obit on the AP wire today. I enjoyed his work so much, and when I'm in the mood for a good short story, I always take down my literature book from college and read "Harrison Bergeron."

I will 'third' this. Hit the nail on the head, as the saying goes.

I still remember seeing a video of him doing a presentation on plot. Good stuff, both intellectually and humorously.

Whether or not you liked his work is irrelevant. Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., age 84, left his mark on the world of literature; his name was known and will continue to be known for years to come.

I read about that this morning on the Internet. I'm sorry to see him go. I read a lot of his stuff when I was in High School. His writing was pretty darned good, to put it mildly.

I know he will be sorely missed by many writers as well as readers.
