Is anyone familiar with a company called Writer's Research Group? Their website contains a minimum of information but does include an address in Oklahoma. They placed an ad in our local paper for writers. The pay is $10 for each 400-word article THAT IS ACCEPTED "by our clients."

They're not listed [yet] at Predators & Editors.

Thanks!

Hi Freshpencils, and welcome to AW!

Have you done any work for them or are you affiliated with them in any way?

No - I took their ad for a bona fide job opening and "applied" online. Of course I received an answer almost immediately that they wanted to "hire" me. I haven't responded.

The pay sounds pretty skimpy. It works out to one quarter of a penny per word. You'd have to write nearly eleven thousand words per week (over one half million each year!) to make minimum wage.

My math might be off, but I'm getting more than a penny a word. A penny word would be 400 words at 400 pennies(=$4), and they're paying $10 for 400 words, which is 2.5x that amount?

You are correct. It's two and one half cents per word. Still pretty skimpy, though.

I think the minimum word count is only 250 words not 400. (I write for them but I don't remember the minimum.)

You can probably write about 4 of them an hour if you know the topic. So it's a little more than minimum wage at $40 an hour. But I know it's not for everybody.

I think it's pretty easy extra cash.

I write for them. Their contract is with a big name that you would instantly recognize, not a content factory. Also, the pay is closer to 20-40 per hour as the word count is 250 and they want efficient copy- not filler. So 250 is easy.

Also, everything you write is preapproved by their client, so there is no "accepted by their client" issue anymore.

I find it to be a great supplemntal gig.

I "know" a lot of people from a mommys board that write for them and seem to they like it.
