Hi, just started my first book, havent got a name yet and will take to long for me to descripe the plot, just tell me what you think of it so far.

Chapter 1

Arms stretched, Robert lay on his bed, grasping in one hand a cigarette and in the other a box of matches. Don’t give in to temptation, he repeated to himself.. He had been a frequent smoker for the past 7 years and had recently decided to try and quit. Although the logic of it all is quite simply mind over matter, he hadn’t quite got to grips with it.
Ever since he had been to see a “quit smoking” cinema at Harvard University, he had pushed himself into buying hypnotic cassette tapes, which apparently control your brain and convince it that it no longer needs nicotine, weather or not they worked or not he was not quite sure of, people had informed him that they do, but weather or not they just said that for advertising purposes he would never know.
He loosened his grip around the cigarette and placed it in between his lips. Ill quit tomorrow. He removed a match from the box and began its course toward the rough side of the paper which would be used to ignite the match, giving him the freedom to light his cigarette. Before he could do so, he was interrupted by the ringing of his cell-phone. Talk about being saved by the bell. He chuckled to himself. He removed the cigarette from his mouth and laid it on the dresser along with the matches. He lifted his jacket pocket and rummaged through the inside pocket, retrieving a cell-phone which was vibrating madly in his hand. Lying back down he answered the call and put the receiver to his ear.
‘Hello?’. He said wearily.
‘Ah, hello Mr Vernet, it is Mr Voitaite’. The man said. ‘I see you finally decided to answer the call then’.
‘Err, yea I was just --’.
‘Forget what you were doing’. Mr Voitaite interrupted. ‘You are needed at the office immediately’.
Robert tilted his head and looked at the clock which was hanging on the wall at the foot of his bed: 2:35 AM.
‘Have you any idea what time it is?’. He said curiously. ‘Why would you possibly want me to come to the office this early in the morning?’.
‘It is a matter of great importance, I would tell you more but I feel it quite risky to be discussed over an open phone line. You understand, right?
‘Yes, of course I do. But I cannot come, my car is--’. Mr Voitaite interrupted him again. ‘Your car is not needed, I have already sent someone to pick you up, he should be arriving any minute now. I expect to see you here in less than an hour. Am I understood?’.
‘Yes sir, ill be there as soon as possible’. Robert groaned.
Mr Voitaite hung up the phone and Robert he was left in silence.
Robert threw the phone to the foot of the bed and put his hands behind his head. Staring up at the blanc ceiling he tried to absorb what had just happened. What could possibly be so important?. Possibly nothing I could loose sleep over, probably another false alarm; that has been happening quite a lot over the past few months; just another fault in the system I guess. Nothing that cannot be fixed.
He took a moment to gather himself before crawling off the bed. Whilst making his way downstairs he heard a familiar noise, the sound of his faxing machine.
Pulling the slip of paper from the fax, Robert began to read. On the paper was the word:

VATICAN

Vatican?. What the hell. He stared down at the screen but the sender had not withheld their number. Strange. He folded up the paper and placed it into his pocket.

Heya!

Glad to see you've posted your work, but.... I can't help thinking it'd be better off in the Share Your Work board. (^_^)

Why not? It's not a national secret. It just stops search engines from picking posts inside up. Besides, it's posted below the subforum name where everyone can see it.

you martyr and shine.
You can't see it posted below the sub forum unless you're a member and logged in. However, anyone can come here, member or not. I know, because I lurked a while before joining up.

But, whatever. I don't have any state secrets posted over there. If no one else cares, why should I?
