Behind you... with a big stick.
A poster mentioned that he draws and paints. So do I. Now, I'm curious to see if a lot of us have this ability. Oh, yeah, I don't mean drawing stick figures, I mean the real deal. :D I have never sold a word I've written, but I have sold paintings.

Do you mean draws and paints, or gets paid to draw and paint? I'm working on a painting for my living room. I'm calling it "Too Cheap to Spring for a Painting Someone Else Did."

I sell paintings, too. I generally do commissions of people's dogs and horses. A few of my own that I haven't sold are an owl, a hawk, a tiger, a girl with a western horse, and a hockey scene. I've sold at community art shows but never had a solo show yet. If I get enough stuff framed, I'd like to call it: Horse Hockey.

And I just sold my first novel (whoo hoo!).

I imagine you may mean me. (See my siggy.)
I have been an artist for about a decade and have sold stuff, written tons of articles about how-to, and I run the Painting/Drawing section at Suite 101.
My gallery is www.gallery.alinasandor.com.
If you'd like for me to crit some of your stuff I'd be more than happy to.

I was a fanatical painter - until senior year of art school.

As far as doing it for money, I'm not going to lie - I'm a complete creative whore. I've sold art, I've sold music, I've sold writing.

I'm currently working on selling a kidney, but it seems that's illegal, so...

I dabble, but the only money I make is in graphics. Recently I've returned to drawing and have been tinkering with combining my sketch work with PSP to do some multi-media stuff that's a lot of fun.

I registered a domain for whatever it ends up being but haven't done anything with it yet. Mostly I've done lots of web graphics this past few years, but I feel like something new is coming.

I started my writing career as a cartoonist, but soon learned I was far better gag writer than cartoonist. :)

I've been good at art ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil, and drawing people had always been my specialty. I also painted the picture that I'm using as my avatar right now, it's a copy of a tiny 2 ins pic I found in a magazine when I was in my teens. I done it via watercolours on a very large sketch pad though, about 16 x 20. Although I have always been good at art and praised highly for it over the years, I have always preferred to do things that concern the written word.

I'm an amateur polymer clay artist. I make cats like the one in my avatar picture, dragons like the one in Auction #23, other animals, and I dabble in polymer clay jewelry. The sculpting spilled over into my writing, too. My MC in my fantasy story is an artist who works with magical clay.

When I was a kid I'd write things you "might" call graphic novels, basically crude drawings with speech bubbles of somewhat witty things. I have notebooks full of them. They are all very embarrassing.

I've painted and done graphite portraits on comission, but it's like shoving a knife in my heart. I hate it. Got out of that by pretty much telling people "no," but, now that I've been drawing little things for the girl I take care of, her mom's convinced me to do a painting for the grandma, a painting of the kids. . . . sigh.

Art is too close to opening a vein and pouring it onto the canvas. I can't do it for money. That's why I never used the college art credits I earned in high school. It feels wrong to do it for money (and no, I won't do it for free, either. I'm a selfish whore and will do it only for myself.)

But writing, sure. Give me the money! Want a clever description of your cat? I got hundreds of 'em!

I began my college career as a studio art major before I switched to English. I was decent at painting and at figure drawing, but better at sculpture. I've sold sculpture, but there's something about selling art that makes me unhappy. I think it's that once you've sold it to someone else, it's gone. With writing, you can distribute it widely and still have it for yourself. Now, I draw or paint occasionally, but only for my own benefit. I make shadow boxes, but I wouldn't sell them. I make them specifically for certain characters, so they're personal in ways one might not immediately consider. I wouldn't want to give them up, is all.

Neat thread!

I am a photographic artist--I take photos of live dance performances and digitally manipulate them for moode and effect...I do sell them and have had a few showings of my work here in the Chicago area. My website isn't completely re-vamped yet--but you can see some of my stuff under "artwork" on www.moonbeamdigital.com. I also supply most of the photography for articles that I write...

Don't know if I am an artist who writes or a writer that does artwork....!

I paint and draw for a living when I'm not writing stories. I have an arts & craft buisness with my partner. I have an online shop with a very famous online auction site (I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post the url here so i'll just say anyone who wants to look at my work please PM me and i'll send you the link - although if you google Heidi Morbannaon you'll find me). I also make and sell cards and have had many one woman art shows as well as selling all over the world.

I once tried to illustrate my own work but realised that the way I paint and the mediums I use didn't really lean itself to illustration although I'm still playing with ideas so maybe one day down the line who knows :D

Sweet, I have company. I'm a wildlife painter...and I can do a mean horse, too. I like to paint big cats and horses.

I wanted to paint for a living when I was a kid. But I smelled money and went with IT. I hate IT.

I've never made any money off my art, but I draw and paint pretty decently, when I put my mind to it (but my doodles and fanart are cruddy, 'cus I don't put any effort into them XD ). I'm planning on trying my hand at a graphic novel soon, but actually, my best art form is sculpture. I sculpt dragons. :D Really insanely detailed little dragons.

I've had lots of offers from people to buy my dragons, but even though I'm dirt poor, I can rarely bear to part with them. So much time and love goes into them that I'm as attached to them as I would be to a book I've written. I've got no problem publishing a book, because I would still have it, but like weatherfield said, once you sell a piece of art, it's gone. So my sculpture is just for me. But you can see them on deviantart.

WOW that little dragon is something else. I'd buy one in a minute if you sold them.

I wanted to be a painter, along the lines of da Vinci, well before I wanted to be a writer. I took all the courses, got all the training, but I simply lacked enough talent to be the kind of painter I wanted to be.

I don't sell anything, but I've been drawing a lot longer than I've been writing. Now that I'm writing, though, I'm drawing quite a bit less.

When I do draw, it's either animals I'm making up or manga style stuff, like this: here

Another artist here. I've done portraits and landscapes in different mediums for friends and relatives, but nothing for money yet. A few can be seen if you click on my name in my signature.

I'd like to do commission work (portraits) and sell at the markets (landscapes), but wouldn't have a clue what to charge.

I take those letters that we all make on computer screens, and I do them by hand on paper. With ink. It's really rad.

(I have the artistic ability of a glass of water)
