That's a good question right now.
Blame Scarletpeaches and PeeDee for this one. I'm asking everyone to share at least one of their writer's bios. Just for kicks.

Here's the last one I used:

Lori A. Basiewicz has been sequestered in an undisclosed location. Her writing group says it is for her own good. While successfully avoiding both her first novel and her Master's thesis, she's co-launched Coyote Wild, a new speculative fiction ezine. Periodically she escapes protective custody in order to practice aikido. She can be reached at [email protected].

Here's mine, in Very Businesslike Writer mode:

Victoria Strauss is the author of seven fantasy novels, including the Stone duology (The Arm of the Stone and The Garden of the Stone) and the Way of Arata duology (The Burning Land and The Awakened City). She has written hundreds of book reviews for magazines and ezines, including SF Site, and her articles on writing have appeared in Writer’s Digest and elsewhere. In 2006, she served as a judge for the World Fantasy Awards. An active member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, she's Vice-Chair of the Committee on Writing Scams and maintains the Writer Beware website at www.writerbeware.org. She welcomes visitors to her own website: www.victoriastrauss.com.

I practiced for years before an unrelated injury sidelined me. :( There's nothing quite like throwing people around for fun!

What? Bio? Let me think about that...

I can't remember what my other one was so:

Pete Tzinski has been writing for a long time, mostly on purpose. He lives in Minnesota, which is not his fault, and is happily married, which is. He is outnumbered by, in no particular order, women, cats, books, and stories. Also, he cannot find his tea.

I haven't been practicing for two years yet, but I had a minor injury to my knee at the beginning of this year. There was much whining and pouting while it healed.

Now, about your bio... ;)

Here's my most recent one. I didn't write it, but I kind of like it.

[weatherfield] is an editorial assistant with [thing]. Little else is known about her.

(I was out of town when they were collecting bios)

I could easily write a humorous bio, but thought this would make me look unprofessional.

Do agents have senses of humour after all?!

LOLOL - here's my bio, on my website:

Rhonda Stapleton started writing a few years ago to appease the voices in her head. She has a Master's degree in English and a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing. Rhonda works as a principal publishing specialist for a legal publishing company and enjoys freelance editing and offering editing workshops.

Because one writing group is never enough, she belongs to Romance Writers of America, several online and local writing chapters, and Romance Divas.

Rhonda lives in Northeast Ohio with her two lovely, energetic children and fiancé, who are more than enough to keep her busy when she's not writing.

In the twelve minutes of free time she has each day, Rhonda enjoys reading, writing poetry, singing in the shower (and in the car, at work, or basically anywhere that provides oxygen), drinking chai tea, and playing on the internet.

Texas. It's like a whole 'nother country.
This is what I put in my queries:

I write about soldiers, about men and women whose courage enables them to accomplish the impossible. My own experience with soldiers informs and inspires my writing: I spent twelve years as a soldier with the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty in Iraq in 2005.

I'll have a longer one soon. But somebody has to, you know, buy the damn book first.

LOL, I'm sitting here reading this in my robe...

Um, we might have to change the part about "people who have paid her..."

C. Bronco lives in Wharton, NJ, with her husband and son. She works as an educator, and writes when her son is sleeping. She enjoys motorsports and long walks on the tarmac.

Pee Dee, you are welcome to make it more snazzy. I'm not sure what else to say.

A dark, evil place.
Okay. I guess I have to post this one:

In his early years, Steve Barber longed to become a shepherd, but never fulfilled his dream. Now, a bitter and lonely old man, he ekes out a miserable existence by collecting returnable bottles, and selling single cigarettes to small children. Occasionally he also writes stories. Steve lives in Ann Arbor with his drug-addicted Chihuahua, Haggis.

My brief bio right now is so boring, it makes me want to cry. It used to have a bit in there about hardly ever eating goats, and once, it capped with "and she never, ever sleeps," but they both disappeared at some point.

Saundra Mitchell is a screenwriter and author at work in the American Midwest. She writes both the Fresh Films and Girls in the Director's Chair short film series, and recently sold her first book to Random House's Delacorte imprint. She's also published short fiction with Vestal Review, SmokeLong Quarterly and Edgar Literary Magazine.

Reading that again, I'm definitely putting the goats or sleeplessness back in.

This is from my proposal for my spec fiction book, thus the "secretive theocracy" and "un-mechanized world" bits:

A former Franciscan nun, Alice Loweecey brings to the idea of secretive theocracy the unusual perspective of an “insider” of the Roman Catholic Church. She was raised on classic horror films and post-nuke literature and is an actor, musician, singer, teacher, gardener, and fiber-worker—able to earn a living in the un-mechanized world she has created. She is the chair of Greater Buffalo Christian Writers and has a BA in English Literature from The Catholic University of America. Her feature articles and reviews appear on BuddyHollywood.com, The ChristianPEN.com, AGreaterFreedom.com, and TrueTunes.com.

Nowhere near as funny as some, but usually makes people look twice. I knew I'd get some use out of those years in the nunnery one day!

Bios aren't just for agents. They also appear at the end of short stories and non-fiction articles in some publications.

...neither of which I write.

I know book proposals involve selling yourself but...I'm a Brit! We don't do 'blowing our own trumpet'!

Don't quite have a bio yet... but if I were to have one it would be:

Aspiringwriter lives in North Carolina with his wife and two cats. Ever since he was a child, Aspiringwriter wanted to write. At the age of thirty-five, he began working on his breakout novel and has since risen to success.

At least it's a start right :)

Aging. Writing. Aging. Writing...
I have this diatribe plastered to the back of my novel:

An archaeologist, a vampire, and a pirate are just a few of the things Karey hoped to be when she grew up. No ships to sink, no fanged garbed-in-leather creatures of the night to be found, she opted instead to string words together, thus creating adventures in realms parallel to our own—and best avoided by the faint of heart. Traveling the world with her children and Air Force husband, and one arrogant fat cat, her favorite haunts are Scotland, dungeons—and Starbucks.

You're not [just a] Brit. You're also a writer. Writers have no choice but to sell themselves or to sell themselves to someone who will do future selling for them.

Here. Somewhere. Probably.

It's about time I wrote one, I guess. Well, it's rough, but here goes:

English-born Cath Smith is currently living out her American Dream of sitting on her front porch and throwing cats at passers-by. In between passers-by, she scribbles down the voices in her head and forces them into stories. In her spare time she enjoys annoying her husband and venting her frustrations in clay.
