Online magazines, publications??

I understnd that to get a short story collection published, many of the stories need to have been published in magazines previously. I'm wondering if online magazines are as good as print when striving toward this purppose.

What are some of the better ones to look into?

They're probably not literary, as I'm not exactly sure what that is.

These short stories are based on tidbits of information passed down to me from older family members, neighbors, aquaintances, or whoever else happened to open their mouth around me to say something worth repeating. Most are from times dating back fifty or more years. Names I've chosen are fictitious, but the settings are actual. The ideas for a few came from old newspaper articles.

All the stories are based on truth, but at the same time do not let the truth get in the way of telling the story. They might be considered folklore, I'm not sure.

Sounds great and it sounds like my stories could fit in with what they're asking for!

I'm already in trouble for publishing family secrets, so how much more can it hurt?
