This thread is just a general purpose thread for the retreat, planned for next year, attempting to condense the useful information from the other threads and provide a more centralized location for discussion. And if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you.

last updated: March 29th

Pending any unlikely changes, YOU MUST BE 18 TO ATTEND THIS RETREAT

WHERE: Utah. (specific location still being worked on.)

WHEN: July 2008 (pretty sure on this)

LENGTH: Four days, three nights.

WHAT: A writer's retreat, a relaxed gathering of writers and friends to learn more about writing, try writing different things (and more of the same things), to hang out, to socialize with other strange people, and possibly to consume beer.

WHAT ELSE: That's it for the moment.

OH COME ON: No, seriously, that's all I've got!

LOSER: I AM NOT! Jerk.

....

ANYWAY, this is a good thread to chat about anything retreat related. As I get more information (i.e. am yelled at about something) I will add it to this first post, so WATCH THIS POST. I may mention new details further downstream, but even if I do, I'll add the details to this post to make it a one-glance summary of retreat related thingummies.

Wasn't this informative?

Yes it was.

I forgot to tell something to you.

It's a mountain writer's retreat this year.

That means mountain writers. A rare and interesting breed.

We therefore recommend you get your shots updated.

(thank god)

PETE: Hello! My, that's a bushy Civil War General beard you've got there!

PERSON: Thanks!

PETE: It matches your deep voice really well. And I'm digging that skull tattoo on your right arm.

PERSON: Awesome, man.

PETE: So! I'll just write you out a nametag. And you are...?

PERSON: My name's Carrie.

PETE: Oh. Er. Um. Hey. I'm.....Rllgthunder.

CARRIE: Neat!

When plotting the exact dates, I would STRONGLY suggest avoiding the weekend nearest to July 24th. It's a state holiday and *everybody* is going to be out and about, camping, fishing, picnicking, going to parades, and rodeos and demo derbies. Yeah, it *sounds* like a good time, but it makes traveling and room and board and everything more difficult. Trust me on this.

Yes I agree... but because of some people need to come from the UK and Utah has two celebrations we will aim for between the two holidays. I know I said early maybe June but that isn't going to work. So plan for Mid July. :)

I live in Salt Lake.

I do too, now :) I grew up in Oakley though, and Kamas always got hit hard over the 4th and 24th--it seemed like everybody in SLC came up for those weekends. So I was trained young to be wary of them, lol.

As far as time in July, early to mid-July is good. The RWA conference starts July 30, 2008 and there may be some who want to go to both (I always go to RWA--I know that'll be the deciding factor--Jodiodi's schedule).

Just wait, my friend, just wait...

Tentative schedule:

Friday 10am-10:05 am : Watch Carrie beat the living crap out of Pete.

It'll be fun for all ages...UFC rules apply except we will be allowing groin kicks.

:)

If people would like, I can volunteer to do an afternoon stretch break. I usually do that for the Epicski.com clinic, which uses the same BB style and also does workshops in Alta!

Except it'll be a thirty second match, where Carrie slaps me once, I go down for the count, and that's the end of it. Sorry. :)

I guess I can see if Stephen Seagull wants to come. That could make a fun fight. And he could read poetry to us later.

That's a cool idea. Although I'll have to say that if I do a stretch break one afternoon, it'll be one more stretch break than I've ever done on any other writing day. (Unless you count sudden trips to chase the cat happily around the house.)

Where's Utah? Is that one of the ones in the middle bit?

It's one of those square bit ones, I think.

Cool! We hope that we will all have a blast even if it is to mock PeeDee's pants he will be voted into wearing ;)

Which, despite the outcome of the poll, will still just be a pair of black jeans. :)

Okay, so who's bringing what? I mean, other than Pete's stretchy pants and Carrie's Harley and leather jacket?

I'm bringing lawyers, guns, and money. Oh----and tea. Lawyers get thirsty.

I think we should have a tea bar. Everyone bring a box, or whatever, of some particularly interesting kind of tea you wouldn't mind sharing. I love trying different kinds of tea, I have a whole cupboard full of tea.

Bring bags, loose leaf, whatever.

....and knowing this lot, we'll wind up with four hundred various brands of Earl Gray and then I'll bring a thing of Constant Comment, and that'll be it. ;)

(Tea bar. Pete wants Tea Bar.)

I will be most happy to bring some of my imported teas from South Africa. I have an overage of stock. :D
