Just what is the technical issues in a novel. I know what some are saying. If I have to ask, then I have no business writing. My answer is I love to write Historical Romance and my dream is to be published. If technical issues is in my way to getting published, then I need to know. So if anyone has any answers for me or can lead me to a thread to learn it, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Glenda

"Technical issues" can mean a couple of different things. Normally, I'd say it has to do with basic grammar and composition---spelling, punctuation and word usage. But since you're writing historical romance, it might mean the technical issues of the time period you've selected. For example, having the hero use a lighter on a cigarette before matches even existed.

What was the context the term was used in? Do you remember the phrasing in the letter or conversation?

Thanks Cathy. I tried to get into the time slot. But I may not have made it. Got so wrapped up in wirting I overlooked the important details. Here is what the letter said.

Unfortunately, though I liked that plot and enjoyed the light tone of your writing voice, there are some technical issues with the writing that prevent us from offering a contract. At this time, my best advice to you is to find one or two reliable critique partners who will give you honest feedback in polishing this manuscript and further honing your craft.

So with that much info, how much trouble am I in on this MS?

Well, I read this phrasing to mean the writing itself rather than the historical details. Do you have anything over in SYW that I could look at as an example to see for certain? If not, could you post a page from whatever you sent to this editor?

Someone in the industry just gave you feedback, which is gold to a writer.

Do what they say. Get feedback from other writers.

I've been there and done that. My writing may seem fine to me, but I'm all too aware I can't see the forest for the danged trees. After more than 20 novels sold I STILL ask friends to check through my stuff!
