When do I inquire about the status of my submission?

Hi guys!

Two months ago, I sent my short story to a local publication. The publication has yet to provide a list of the short stories in one of their anthologies and I recently saw that they're calling in for submissions to another anthology.

My last submission to them, I made it on the very day of their deadline. I'm not so sure if I was accepted or not since they never replied. I was wondering when the right time was to inquire about the status of my submission, and how do I do it? Because I'd like to try and submit my work somewhere else.

Appreciate the input.

Did they provide any note as to how long it would take them sort through the submissions? Two months doens't seem very long to me. I start getting antsy around three :) Check thier website (if they have one) to find out how long it takes them. Also you sent it in dead last so you're probably going to be waiting for awhile.

That's right, of course, and good advice.

BUt if you're really concerned, then send them a polite little e-mail just wondering how your story's doing.

Home - but for how long?
Before you nag...

just check the guidelines carefully, for some editors, if 'nagged', will send the story straight back. You can usually guess form the guidelines who will do this.

If it's an anthology two months is a short time to wait, it's usually four or more.

Be patent, girl. Send other stuff out inthe meantime.

I got stuff out for over a year. Nothing's gonna happen to them, but I'm too busy sending out other stuff.

Thanks guys :) Guess I'll have to wait, but I am a bit worried because the other pub I submitted to e-mailed me that they'd received my submission while the other pub just didn't have a single indication that they received it.

Must be different policies. Oh well...
